Description: Around the tables of "Il Latini" friendships are interwoven, all the world's languages are spoken, fervent discussions are held and everyone tastes food that has the flavour of the old times past. Il Latini means tradition: a means of discovering Tuscany and its people. The kitchen is where the best products of Tuscany's countryside are turned into the dishes typical of the tuscan tradition. Il Latini's kitchen was originally the kitchen of Narciso's wife, who used to take the dishes from her home to the cellars in Palazzo Rucellai where tables were set. Sora Maria's cooking was made of ingredients and flavours typical of tuscan cuisine, simple and genuine food that nowadays are still a characteristic of the restaurant. The flood in Florence did not spare the tavern, which continued nevertheless to serve warm dishes Florentine citizens among the muddy streets.

We are recommended by locals to have dinner here. The staff was courteous and friendly even though 3 of our party of 7 were late for the reservation. We drank house wine, ordered delicious sides and enjoyed a rather large Florentino steak of only 1.2 kilograms. (The smallest size they offer!)

Went there today with my wife and another couple... Shared three pastas and 4 meats.... We were not rushed at all, our waiter was real good! Food was good! Would recommend! Inexpensive meal at a good price

We where determined to find Restaurante Il Latini after seeing it on TV in the UK (On great continental rail journeys with Michael Portillo). We where not disappointed. If you are hungry the restaurant do the traditional Italian courses staring with antipasti etc then pasta then steak (for 50 Euro's per person, including wine), but you would need to be very hungry to get the lot down.
We went for the al-a-carte and just had steak with spinach and potatoes. It was beautiful & so so tasty. One of the best sirloin steaks ever tasted!!!
Great meal, fantastic food and good wine. Meal for 2 came to 59 Euro's.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had heard about this restaurant through a trusted food publication and thought it was a must to visit. It definitely isn't. Now there is certainly nothing terrible about this restaurant, it was just disappointing and not at all worth the cost.

Firstly, there is no outlook whatsoever. That is fine if you have a great experience and great food. But we didn't. The waiter was very pushy and said 'everyone does the set menu'. The set menu is huge and includes their very average house wine. We eat a lot but there is absolutely no way we could have eaten all of the set menu. We had to specifically ask for menu to see the other options as did the couple next to us.

Next. we set out ordering something off the menu. The things my husband wanted were not available. He then asked for the chicken. The waiter basically didn't let him have it saying 'it is too dry'. If that is the case and it's not good, take it off the menu!

The couple next to us did the set menu. The portions were enormous and by the time their steak came they could barely eat it. I love a rare steak but the gentlemen next to me didn't and he had to ask for it to be cooked again. I understand that it might be the florentine way but I did feel that he really didn't have much option.

The house wine although cheap is so disappointing. Particularity in Italy - you don't have to pay much for brilliant wine. The rest of the wines on the list were a lot more expensive. Our experience wasn't off to a good start so we didn't want to invest any more money in being there, hence the house wine choice.

We had heard that it is touristy but also local and worth it. Usually we try to go to places with not many tourists. This was full of tourists! We are all about not wasting a meal when travelling and this definitely wasted a meal!

Our bill came to 85 Euro. We have paid the exact amount or more for stunning meals in gorgeous locations with good service. This left such a bad taste in our mouth. We only comment on trip advisor when we really want to help others travelling. My advice would whole-heartedly be don't do it!

Whilst we had read good reviews about this place, we were at first a bit sceptical as we were worried that this would be another overrated restaurant. Thankfully, we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is frequented by both locals and tourist, which we feel is usually a good sign. Whilst the menu is rather limited, which in this case is a good thing as it provides focus and ensures quality, the food is authentic and tasty. Our favorites though were the meat items: The bistecca is grilled to perfection and the meat is not too chewy (like in some other restaurants). The highlight is the fillet though, again grilled to perfection and super tender. The house wine is very decent too (they sell it by the glass from the bottles that are on each and every table). Overall, a great experience and highly recommended.
