The first time we came to Florence, many years ago, we dined at Le Fonticine, and I still remembered how good the food was, but my husband said he felt too crowded, wedged in between two other small tables. Our waiter seemed harried and rushed. We finally returned in October, and the atmosphere was quite different...no crowding, room to breathe. The service was very solicitous, the atmosphere cozy.
My husband ordered a veal chop that was big and tender, and everything was good, including the price. It may have been the lowest priced of our dinners in Italian restaurants, and the quality was one of the highest. We plan to return on our next trip in October.

We were hesitating but decided to try the Fonticine as we were exhausted and it was close to our hotel on Via Nazionale. We shared a green salad with black olives and orange slices. Our waiter added the olive oïl and the balsamic vinegar at our table. It was just right. We also shared the mixed Tuscan cheese platter served with Cremona moztarda ( fruit mustard ) and honey. It was so good with the Tuscan bread. My huband ordered the wild boar and I had the Osso Bucco served with spinach. Both were so tender it melted in your mouth. We also shared a homemade dessert that was heavenly. We regret not going back instead of trying other restaurants that did not compare with the Fonticine.

The place looks tiny from the road, but as you are escorted through it opens out into a large, busy room. The waiter was helpful with our choices - pasta to start and Veal steaks to follow, but somehow managed to forget to put our order through. We suddenly realised that people who had come in after us were being served. He apologised and our food quickly arrived - which was all very delicious. We were offered grappa (which we didn't want) as recompense for our tardy food, and had to fight to get our bill adjusted instead. Shame, as it marred our first evening in Florence.

Exceeded expectation. Good atmosphere, on the smaller side, friendly and good location. The food was very good with excellent presentation. We had Wonderful tagliatelli fungi and Veal parmagiana. The steak was too rare, but that was our fault, forgot to be more specific when ordering. The tripe was the best my wife had had in years. the service was good.
We fely welcome. Truely an Italian experience.

After being recommended by our hotel, we went to try it out and we were not disappointed. We ended up making reservations for the next night and in the end we ate there three nights in a row. We loved the atmosphere, the food and wines were absolutely amazing. The service was spectacular-Roberto is amazing! We enjoyed amazing pastas, the steak is to die for, and we even managed to try some deserts that were absolutely incredible, not to mention the wine. The staff treats everyone like old friends and you will not be disappointed. I highly suggest making reservations as to not be disappointed. We would go back in a heartbeat if ever in Florence again!
