We saw this restaurant on our evening walkabout and decided to eat there because it looked a bit more upmarket than some we had seen (it was my birthday so we wanted a treat). We were attended to efficiently but not overly friendly or personal manner. The food was good but not unforgettable and the menu choices on the whole rather expensive. Although we were not unhappy about anything it was not the highlight of our trip.

This was near our hotel in Piazza Republica. We went for dinner after an early evening stroll in Piazza Della Signoria.

The outdoor seating was very charming. The place has great atmosphere. The food was excellent, too. However, we found the portions to be small and food a bit on the expensive side.

The service was efficient, though strictly functional.

Very central and pleasant atmosphere but food was average quality and quite expensive. My spaghetti with sea food was average at beat: shrimp over cooked and not that much sea food. Would avoid unless you are starving and price is not an issue. There is much more honest food in the area.

Since Florence is such a tourist-intensive city, it's hard to find a nice restaurant that isn't a pizzeria or trattoria or else over-priced and badly mediocre. That's why we were delighted to discover La Posta, a very nice restaurant that is a refuge from the crowds and the fast dining yet still located right in the center of town. We've been there several times during our many visits to Florence.

We like La Posta for several reasons. First, like many Italian restaurants, it's family-owned, and here Mama will greet you at the door which is a nice way to begin your visit. Next, unless the weather is terrible or frigid, you can eat outdoors at tables covered with pretty tablecloths, under a canopy that in cooler weather also has heat lamps; these tables are on a relatively quiet side street. If this is a choice for you, we recommended it. Indoors there are three dining rooms which open depending on how crowded the restaurant.

Third, they have lots of seafood on the menu, much of which is cooked simply. I particularly love their antipasto of paper thin slices of smoked swordfish draped over a bed of arugula. Seafood isn't common at Florence restaurants so this is a treat. The rest of the menu is quite typical of Tuscan restaurants with pastas, meats and vegetables, plus they have a dessert cart with prepared sweets plus fresh fruit. The wine list has a range of choices and prices. You will be charged for bottles of water and there is also a cover charge, both of which are typical practices for Italian restaurants.

It is always better to reserve, even if you don't expect a restaurant to be busy. For our most recent visit to La Posta which was on New Year's Day, we simply stopped by at noon and reserved for later that day. Management always appreciates it and we were rewarded with a very nice corner table.

This is not a bargain restaurant as it is a ristorante and not a trattoria. But the menu is posted outside the door so there are no surprises. Service is straight-forward. I wanted to see the kitchen before we left and mama was very gracious in letting me make a quick visit (the cooks were busy!). We were also treated to icy glasses of limoncello before we left. Always a nice touch. The waiter was very busy and so service was somewhat perfunctory, but he was also warm and friendly. Just busy.

For visitors to Florence who want something a little more refined and quiet, La Posta is a comfort from the hoards of tourists and crowded pasta and pizza places. Highly recommended.

We came for a lunch and had to wait 1 hour (!!!) for a piece of veal!! Veal turned to taste like a pork, very fatty, poor taste! After all they included a water in a bill, which we never ordered. Overall impression is disgusting, especially after reaction of a waiter - lie about a time for preparation, no discounts, service charge
