I never managed to find a bad restaurant in Florence, but 4 Leoni stood out for it's fresh ingredients and excellent execution. The service wasn't as enthusiastic as we received at other restaurants, but it was very professional. They don't have an English menu (probably a good sign), so if you don't speak the language you will rely on you waiter even more. We started with antipasta of cured meats and a Tuscan liver spread, yummy! Went with the pear pasta, a variation on one of our favorite dishes, that did not disappoint. Instead of the Steak Florentine, which was huge, we have the filet prepared in the same way. It was the best steak i have ever had. You will notice they will not ask you how you want it cooked. If you don't like rare, eat some chicken. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. Two of us got out for around 100 euro. You'll want reservations (bring your confirmation). You're probably going to want to take a cab, as it is not easy to find.

This restaurant was close to our destination of the evening at St. Luke's Church for opera. It was a warm evening so we sat outside and from the start, we were treated to great service from
the staff, very friendly and accommodating. Had a pasta with crab which needed to be cracked,
a little messy, but delicious. Good selection of wines. A nice little offering at the beginning of meal was a small cup of thick squash soup and limoncello to finish. Great place.

This place located on a tiny piazza in the Oltrano was a great little find. One of the best meals we had in Florence.

Everything we ordered was exceptional from the chicken liver to the pork. Great desserts as well.

I see some people complain of the staff, but we had nothing but exceptional service, and in fact our waiter was one of the best we've had in Italy. He made great recommendations and was very attentive.

We'd go back again when in Florence.

We had dinner at 9PM on a Friday night in June.

Reservations are necessary (at least on a Friday in June - lunch is probably another story). Even with a reservation, we had to wait about 10 minutes. The restaurant was very crowded.

Reservations can be made on their website. Translate to English and input your required your time. We made reservations about 3 weeks in advance.

The restaurant is located on the other side of the Arno in the vicinity of the Pitti Palace. We walked there from our hotel near SMN train station, about a 10 minute walk.

I have been to Quattro Leoni two times; once we were seated in a quieter back room with mostly English speakers (presumably because the server for that area spoke English), and the second time in a room with mostly Italian speakers. We did our best to order in Italian.

We had the pecorino with honey appetizer and the ravioli with pear filling - one of my favorite dishes.

The interior is warm and charming, dimly lit, small tables set close to one another...we had a great experience.

This was the best meal we had in the best city we found for food in Italy. This came recommended by 3 other friends who had been there and raved about it. We started with a pesto salad with pine nuts, avocado etc, which was great but the real starts were the 2 pasta dishes. The first, we were told we MUST get, the pear ravioli which was the best bite of food we had. It was in a white sauce with a hint to sweetness from the pear, a perfect bite. There was also a potato ravioli with meat sauce that would have been my favorite dish of the trip had it not been for the pear ravioli! The atmosphere was great, servers very friendly and helpful and a HUGE must go to if you are in Florence. It is NOT fine dining, but is perfect for a special occasion when you don't want to spend 100 euros a person!
