During my recent holiday trip to Italy, I visited the renown Il Falconiere Restaurant in Cortona where upon my arrival, I was taken back with what is by far one of the most beautiful surroundings in Tuscany. Over the last 30 years, I have travelled to many sections of Italy and I have not found a place more stunning than this gem of a location. I was greeted at the front door by Silvia Barrachi, who with her husband, Riccardo, own this Relais Chateau property situated on the Tuscan Hills. I, along with my other guests, were seated promptly and the evening brought forth one of the best culinary experiences of my life. It started off with the Pici Pasta – a very popular dish in Rome but the Il Falconiere took this tasteful pasta to a new level. It was simply spectacular. I thought I would stop there since the portions was very generous but after reviewing the menu for the entrée selections, I was taken aback by the variety of dishes offered and each one of us at the table tried something different. I selected the stuffed pigeon since I was told that Riccardo is very keen on having items on the menu that are known to the locals. It was spectacular – not too gamey – cooked to perfection and every bite more tasteful than the previous one. Chef Richard Titi is a Michelon One Chef and there is no question he has earned that honor. My guests each tried a different dish of which I had the pleasure of tasting and they were all simply superb!
The wine pairing with each course – the spectacular setting – the attention to detail and the hospitable atmosphere made this restaurant one of the best experiences during our trip through Italy. If this restaurant is not on your bucket list, I strongly suggest you add it because once you have experienced the Il Falconiere, you will add it back to your bucket list each time you visit Italy.
