This bar should be listed as a must do attraction in Cortona, rather than a simple bar. We have always set as quality reference the German draught beers. They may be the best, but this traditional beer brewed in Cortona definitely comes extremely close.
We arrived in Cortona in a late afternoon, when most of the restaurants were closed. We were tremendously thirsty. When climbing up Via Guelfa carrying our luggage on the steep street, we spotted this bar just before checking-in at our B&B. The thirst led us directly to the bar, hoping it was open. And it was, and we were warmly welcomed by the girl behind the bar, carefully and patiently and knowledgeably explaining the beers they had and what is distinctive for each of them. They produce a couple of special beers (which we tried) but their offer is extensive in what concerns the bottled beers. Apart from beer, the place serves high quality pizza and other appetizers (we didn’t have the pleasure to taste them but we sort of feel sorry for that). We came back here the next day.
We are sure this place would soon become a landmark in Cortona, given their particular offering, distinctive from the classic Tuscan restaurants.
Sit outside and watch the locals pass by or coming out of their houses. Watch tourists wander around, headed for the central piazza just a few steps away. A miracle.
