“Wonderful place in a great location”
Reviewed June 15, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

La Mimosa is a lovely apartment, part of a re-purposed farmhouse. There's another, larger apartment to one side, and the owners live on the other side and upstairs. It has its own entrance and back patio, and feels private and isolated, despite being part of the farmhouse.

It's bright, airy, and comfortable. We spent most of our time on the patio, and had front and back doors open for nice airflow through the rooms. We breakfasted on the patio, then usually came back in the evenings and had drinks and dinner on the patio, staying out there and reading until we went to bed. Lots of nice bird and butterfly action, and some screech owls living in the eaves—very cool.

It's near two tiny towns, Pietraia and Centoia. Not much of interest in them, but an excellent market in Camucia (10–15 minutes away, towards Cortona). We usually made simple dinners at the apartment from ingredients we got there. The kitchen is my only quibble: a few more pans and glasses would be nice, and cooking on the stove was a bit of a challenge—it was near impossible to have a sauce on a gentle simmer, for example. But we managed.

The bathroom is fine and the shower (no bath) is spacious, with nice tile work. Overall they've modernized the place while maintaining the feel of the original building.

The owners, Peter and Nina, were wonderful: always helpful and available, but never intrusive. They stocked the kitchen when we arrived with water, milk, bread, butter, cheese, tuscan salami, and beer, and also gave us a bottle of local wine. This was for us perfect, for we had been driving for several hours and simply sat down to a great lunch on the patio before doing anything else our first day. And by the way, they are native English speakers.

It's very close to Cortona and to Montepulciano, and easy to drive through gorgeous countryside to anywhere else in Tuscany or Umbria.

“A Cozy, Comfortable Apartment to get to Know Tuscany”

We stayed for 11 - nights and wished we could have had time to stay longer. From the first day when we met Peter and Nina, and later Nina's mother Caterina, we felt like family at La Mimosa. The apartment is just as described in the brochure, large and airy rooms with comfortable furnishings, a well-stocked kitchen area with a stove, refrigerator, and toaster, and a living room with TV and a DVD player. There is WiFi access as well. The bathroom and shower area is large and bright. Nina had a welcome package with bread, cold cuts, beer, cheese, milk, and wine to tide us over until we could make a trip to the grocery store in Camuchia, 10 minutes away. We dined in most evenings, after having snacks and cocktails on the patio. We visited Cortona, Arezzo, Multpulciano, Pacienza, Casigliano del Lago, Isola Maaggiore , and other towns, all very short trips from La Mimosa. We found many restaurants in the towns and usually had lunches there. The grounds at La Mimosa are well cared for and it is a beautiful, quiet, secure place. We spent many hours chatting with Nina and Peter, who were there when we needed them, yet gave us all the privacy we wanted. You will have to go a long way to find accommodations as cozy and comfortable as La Mimosa.
