“Quality time and accommodation under Tuscan sun”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

We spent one week at Rosa dei Venti and it was superb. From the moment of arrival throughout the whole week we experienced hospitality at its best. The family Micheli knows how to make you feel at home. Warm, helpful, happy, interested in their guests and so on. The accommodation is excellent. Charming decoration, stylish, good facilities. If you need privacy you will find it but also possibilities to have a chat with other guests. The views from the swimming pool are nice. the location is great to make daytrips to interesting places as Cortona, Montepulciano, Arrezzo and more. Strongly recommended! We'll be back.

We really can't say enough good things about our visit to Rosa dei Venti. Six of us, all friends and wine lovers, traveled to Tuscany for three days of exploring the region and experiencing the wines of Montepulciano and the Chianti region. We had no idea that we were entering into the magical sphere of the Micheli family and Rosa dei Venti with its gorgeous grounds, beautiful apartments, graciously decorated and refreshing swimming pool surrounded by fields and fields of sunflowers. There were six of us traveling from different parts of the US and Barbara arranged for everything we wanted by email prior to our trip and seemed to know exactly the right things to suggest to us. We spent our days walking around medieval hill towns, including gorgeous nearby Cortona - where "Under The Tuscan Sun" was shot accompanied by a fantastic guide who became a friend. Ask Barb if Lorenza is available when you go! We were so happy to cook our meals in the fully equipped kitchen and gather around our outside dining table where we watched dusk fall over beautiful Tuscany. We felt more like family than just guests at a hotel. As winemakers and a vineyard owner in Oregon, we appreciated and enjoyed the estate made wine with our meals, took home the cookbook and many memories of an outstanding trip.

Rosa dei Venti is the place to stay to experience the true beauty and rhythm of the Tuscan life and family. The property is gorgeous...with rolling hills, wheat and sunflower fields and olive and cypress trees. The brick house is divided into lovely apartments overlooking the pool. The apartment we stayed in was very spacious with a huge farmhouse table, beautiful wood shutters, iron bed frames, tile floor and a well stocked kitchen. The location is perfect for day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, Cortona and other hill towns. But the Micheli family, Barbara, Stefano and the others, are really what make Rosa dei Venti the experience of a lifetime. Don't miss the opportunity to take a cooking class with Barbara and her mother, Ornella. We made the most amazing meal and then had a feast with all the guests! My husband and I traveled with our 8 and 11 year old. They made us feel special and were so sweet with the children. We traveled to Venice, Florence and Rome, but Rosa dei Venti was our favorite part of the trip! It is the perfect place if you are traveling alone, as a couple, or as a family. We hope to return sometime soon! -The Coane Family

Close your eyes and envision the Tuscany of your dreams.........it is Villa Rosa dei Venti. Rolling hills, green verdant fields broken by wheat fields, sunflowers, olive groves, cypress trees bordering hilltops and pathways. Barbara and Stefano welcome you into their hearts and home. The Micheli family have transformed their homestead into a fabulous home away from home. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful. The suites are extremely clean and well appointed. Air conditioning is available in some units; soon all will have air. Our unit did not have air, but with the large screened windows, we could have the beautiful breeze come through. Take advantage of the culinary expertise of this family! The Micheli family have added to their Villa a beautiful new stone building that houses their culinary classes. They were on Finish television in a series featuring Tuscan cuisine. The Fins know of this wonderful spot in Italy, now we are spreading the news to Trip Advisor members! We signed up for a class and had a blast! The class included lots of hands on participation and some demo. It all ended with a fabulous Tuscan meal with the Micheli family and extended family joining us for a time of great food, wine and fellowship! The surrounding countryside is spectacular. I love the hilltop medieval towns of Cortona, Assissi, Siena, Montepulciano, Arezza. The history, both ancient and 20th century is sobering. It has built the character of the people of this beautiful country. I would return to Rosa dei Venti in a heartbeat........this is the heart of Tuscany!

We have visit several agriturismo's in Tuscany, but Rosa dei Venti was definitely the best !!!
We thougt this was a bit our secret, didn't want to tell it to the whole world, because in that case there was no room for us anymore.......ha ha..
But now I read that the whole world knows that the Micheli-family is the sweetest Italian family ever ! Everything is top ! Barbara and Stefano and their parents are so kind, sympathic and helpfull. They are there to give you the best holiday-feeling. Nothing is to much for them. Inside and outside the appartments, everything is so clean and well maintained.
Now we travel around the world, but our (older!) children keep asking : when do we go back to Barbara ?????

As the other reviewers have noted, Barbara, Stephano and the Micheli family have done a great job with the restoration. It is a wonderful place to stay. Villa Rosa die Venti is on a hill in the farmlands outside of Foianno delia Chiana, a small town southeast of Cortona. What makes the location so perfect is that while the estate is located on a quiet hill amid rolling hills filled with wheat and sunflowers and an apple orchard, it also provides easy access to the big east west road that runs between Sienna and Perugia, and the north-south road that runs up to Florence and down to Rome. So it is a perfect place to stay while doing day trips to all the sights in Central Italy. The closest place to visit is Cortona, which is our favorite hill town, even with the increase in tourist traffic from Frances Mayes' books. Wonderful shops. But either by car or train you can visit many other cities. Take the train to Florence, for sure, but by car you can go south to Orvieto, west to Siena and Montalcino, and even as far as Volterra, and between Cortona, Siena and Florence are all the vineyards and restaurants that make Chianti famous.

We stayed in the two bedroom cottage (Aliceo) with another couple for three nights and all of us wished we had stayed longer. We were lucky enough to be there for one of the communal dinners that Ornella, Barbara and Stephano's mother made. A wonderful time with great food: antipasti, primi, second and dolici, all in hearty Southern Tuscan style. Plus great conversations with the other travelers staying there. The new communal dining and gathering space is great. We regretted not signing up for a cooking class with Ornella - definitely include that on your trip.

We've stayed at several agriturrisimos in Tuscany and enjoyed all of them. What made this one a little different was the modern restoration. The kitchen was completely up to date. We bought food at the supermarket in the local town (really inexpensive food and wine) and cooked for ourselves. The bedrooms and bathrooms were really comfortable. And sitting out on the private veranda on the cottage with the expansive views in every direction, sipping wine and munching on local cheese was delightful.

There is a beautiful pool on the grounds. We were there in early June so it was cold. Only one of us was part polar bear and went swimming, but a lot of the guests sat around and sunned themselves on the pool deck.

Finding the Rose of the Winds is a bit tricky. You have to follow the directions carefully. There are signs on the roadside, but sometimes they get grown over. You are out in the countryside, though, so there aren't that many places to get lost in. The main mistake we made was thinking of this place as being in Cortona. Cortona's not far away, but if you have a good map the tiny little town that it is in is called Creti. (The supermarket is in Foiano delia Chiano. There aren't any stores in Creti, its mostly just a small cluster of homes.)

The Micheli family are great hosts and good cooks and they have transformed the family estate with pride and incredible energy. It would be easy to spend a week here, and I can see how some people stay longer. Enjoy. Hope we can go back sometime.

Room Tip: Pictures of all the apartments are on line. There are bigger spaces for extended families traveling...

We have just returned from two weeks at Villa Rosa dei Venti. On arrival we just knew it would be lovely. The grounds are beautifully manicured and tended by the famiily daily. The buildings looked stunning. The views from the pool across the farmland and the sunsets were gorgeous. Ornella made Cantuccini and Torta Crostata one day and they were both delicious. The family are lovely, always on hand, and very helpful. I loved going for a walk every morning and going through Nona's farm yard. Every morning she was there, tending her vegetables, with a lovely 'Buorngiorno'. In fact, most of the neighbours we encountered on the walks in the various houses along the quiet roads were lovely too. We stayed in Grecale and it was spotlessly clean and well appointed. Beautiful bed linen in both bedrooms. On changeover day we were able to look at Sirocco and Aliseo. They were beautiful, as was Maestrale. All are decorated beautifully and some have air-conditioning (which we found would have been great in Grecale because the twin bedroom got very hot at night, even with the windows open). There are two reasons why I haven't given this Agriturismo an 'excellent' rating. I deseprately wanted to but; (1) We found the communal living area in Grecale too small for the four of us but Barbara has said there are works scheduled over the winter to increase the communal living space so then it will be an amazing apartment. In fairness to Barbara. she did offer, at a small charge, to let us have use of a new one-bedroomed apartment across in the Locanda. My husband went to have a look and said it was gorgeous. We thought about it but felt that this would separate us on our family holiday and, as we spend little time together as a family at home, we didn't want to split up (2) There is occasional train noise. It is a few times during the day and it only lasts a few seconds each time. After a while, though, you don't even notice it..
