“Amazing food and experience”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

Myself and a group of friends took part in a cooking course here. Paola who runs the restaurant and her daughter in law Simona were lovely, welcoming and helpful and taught us how to make a full Italian meal including fresh pasta and breads.
Really great place - Highly recommended!

“Best Restaurant In Cortona”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We have lived in Cortona for 3 months and Locanda al Pozzo Antico was by far the best restaurant we found. We enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch there at the end of 2012. In fact, on this, our 16th time in Italy, it was one of the best meals we’ve experienced. The food was simply superb.

Our antipasta platter consisted of duck pate on toast, local sausages including wild boar, and tasty baked artichoke/filo bites filled with cheese and prosciutto – absolutely melted in our mouths. Our first course was ribolletta (veg-bread soup), polenta with wild boar ragu, and a sampling of squash soup. Each was fantastic! My wife pronounced the polenta dish one of the best things she’d ever eaten. And those two courses were filling enough!

Yet we went on – it was just too good not to. For our main course, I ordered a grilled filet and my wife ordered a filet cooked in Chianti wine sauce. Both were choice cuts of meat and were cooked to perfection. Our sides were a sumptuous cooked spinach - and a fennel and orange salad, each alone enough for two.

While his parents were being gourmands, our 10 year old son was eating his homemade pici pasta with rosemary ragu and after said, “Oh my that was good…”

We were well taken care of by friendly and charming Paola, and the Barboni family. Her son Gianni recommended a fine wine. And Franco, Paola’s husband, was kind to our son. No language barriers at all. All of the food, bottles of water, and two bottles of wine: 120 euros. We consider that a great value for the quality. In Rome it would be much more.

Overall, we enjoyed so many great taste samples that we’ve talked about it ceaselessly for the last few days. In fact, we are going again tomorrow. We’re taking Paola and her family this drawing I did of their restaurant as a memento of our appreciation. Steve and Meg Austin

We took part in a cooking course which including making fresh pasta, bread and cantucci buscuits. It was such fun and we learnt a lot about Italian cooking too! We then sat down to our home cooked food which included wine. Highly recommended!

“One of our best meals”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

Definitely one of the best restaurants we experienced on our trips to Italy. We were given a warm welcome and ordered the mixed antipasti followed by a couple of superb pasta dishes and the chicken in Marsala. The food was amazing, so tasty, perfectly seasoned and gorgeously cooked. Service was attentive and personable. It was also one of the few places that had a few half bottles of wine to order too. Would definitely like to return to Cortona just to eat here again!

“Two delightful meals”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We enjoyed a lunch at Pozzo Antico in Cortona with the lovely Paola as our hostess. After we ordered, her husband went out the front door and came back shortly with fresh vegetables for our lunch, which included complimentary fried squash blossoms. We enjoyed it so much that we made reservations for our full party of 8 for dinner. We were not disappointed. The insalata was a work of art. More complimentary squash blossoms, and complimentary vin santo and cantucci biscuits with our dolci. Pozzo Antico is one reason we intend to return to Cortona.
