Bar 500 is one of the series of restaurants/cafes/bars lining the Rugapiana (Via Nazionale) leading to the Piazza Republica. However, it has a friendly service that is currently unrivalled on the strip and great lunches which are just right. We ate there four times during our week's stay, enjoying a leisurely lunch each time. Like us, many of the other customers returned day after day meaning that the atmosphere was almost familial. The salads are huge and justly praised - I had a mozzarella salad and also a prosciutto salad, while my friend had a turkey salad and a tuna salad, all very refreshing on hot summer days. We both had pizzas on another occasion, and you are encouraged to split the toppings across each pizza. On the other occasion, we ate focaccias which were well filled and served with a side salad and crisps. A wide range of drinks complements the food. For the hungry, you can enjoy plates of tapas to share. A good concept. Emma the owner is solicitous, friendly and fluent in a range of languages. You should definitely try this friendly place.
