My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 3 week visit to Italy and Locanda del Molino was our home for five nights while we toured Tuscany. From the minute we entered the building, we were treated as family. The Locanda is very rustic and tuscan in decor - the restaurant is wonderful - we ate there twice! The staff, especially Stefano, were absolutely second to none, and made this leg of our trip the most memorable by far. The breakfasts every morning were filled with homemade cakes and pies, yogurts, cheeses, and cereals. We made appointments for massages at their partner resort, Il Falconiere, and that was something I would most definitely recommend to travellers! We had a car (highly recommended for Tuscany) and took day trips to neighbouring hill-top towns such as Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza, Assisi, Siena, San Gimignano, and decided against Florence only because we had both been there. One night at the restaurant, there was a birthday party for the owner's son's girlfriend. Not only were we made to feel welcome, but they were practically dragging us to the front to sing karaoke! (We didn't end up singing...) My parents are planning a trip to Italy for August, and they will be staying here! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for La dolce Vita at its finest!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Once upon a time there was a very old mill...Today it is a charming Locanda with a special typical Tuscan Restaurant, completely renovated by Riccardo and Silvia Baracchi, owners too of “Relais & Châteaux Il Falconiere”. A heaven of tranquillity and elegance, in the middle of the Cortona countryside, a land famous for its culture, cuisine, and great wines.Locanda del Molino with its romantic rooms, is located in Montanare, on the upper Esse valley, and just few kilometres away from the Etruscan town of Cortona. The environment that surrounds Locanda del Molino is very interesting both for culture and for landscapes. There are eight guestrooms overlooking the creek, where every guest will experience the relax of sleeping while lulled by the sound of the waterfalls. Each room has been individually decorated and fully furnished by Silvia: it will feature either four poster beds or upholstered frames, antique or country style furniture, yet each room shows its authenticity of the almost lost flavours so characteristic of the Cortona countryside.“The style of cuisine that I would like to find in a restaurant like at locanda is for me simple and genuine, but never ordinary. Our Locanda offers mainly traditional Cortona’s cuisine and a shot from the past with almost forgotten dishes in the “Daily menu”. Guests can share with us the pleasure of rediscovering our local cuisine matched with great wines.” ... more less
