My wife and i and six friends have as the La Pozza Di Volpaia in Volpaia Italy for a week in November 2010 and all of us loved it so much that we did the same thing in 2011. The La Pozza is large walled villa in the village and is exactly what you picture an Italian villa to be. Wonderful bedrooms, comfortable living area room area and kitchen and dining room big enough to handle our crew. The price can be daunting but, with 4 couples, the cost for each couple is really no more than a good Inn or hotel. A few of the things that make this place special are; 1) It is in beautiful Tuscany in the Chianti region. 2) The villa has a private swimming pool overlooking the vineyards and rolling hills nearby. 3) The Stianti's, the owners of the villa, are gracious and welcoming and Giovanna Stianti hosts an Italian cooking class. 3) A maid comes with the rent for cleanup and laundry. 4) The villa is a short walk to my favorite place, The Bar Ucci. It is where I go every morning for a cappuccino. The Barucci's are truly wonderful, love their patrons and have very good food. 5) Near the bar Ucci and also only a few steps from the villa is the best restaurant I found in Italy (including Rome) called the La Bottega.
6) the village is centrally located so a trip to Florence or Siena is certainly worth doing.
6) The people of Volpaia. 7) The scenery. If you have ever watched Under the Tuscan Sun, you will know the feeling of Volpaia.
Be sure to rent a GPS in English for driving around.
I am going back there again as are all of our friends.
