We have recently returned from a wonderful 2 week holiday in Taormina staying at B&B Sara in Taormina Sicily. The views from our balacony where super overing looking Taormina Bay & Mount Etna in the background. What more could you ask for. The owners of Villa Sara Elena and her son Domenico could have not been more helpful, attentive to our needs with information on all the places to visit, car hire, local attractions. Elena's breakfasts were wonderful cereals, fruit juice, yohurt, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, even attempting to toast my husbands toast to his satisfaction. The Villa Sara was her family home before turning it into a B&B & is spotlessly clean. It was like staying with a family aunt and she is the most delightful Sicilian lady. We counted the steps down & up into Taormina every day which changed from 310+ frequently but the experience, views are amazing and we did this every day apart form our 4 day car hire days out but in the evening used the steps. You have to be fit to do this & it certainly kept us from putting on weight from those delicious Sicilian meals but would stay again if we are lucky enough to return to Taormina.

We stayed one night (unfortunately only one) in villa Sara and we were happy with EVERYTHINg! We payed a bit more for the view with terass and it was WORTH it! It is a walk into the city, up/down hill but for us that was no problem (10 minutes). We had a car so that was perfect cause in the center there is NO parking, up here there was. Breakfast was amazing and really, everything great!

This B&B offers excellent value for money.I would recommend this place to everyone except wheelchair users as there is no lift in the building and you also have to walk up a lot of steps to access it from the main streets. The building is unassuming from the outside but has a striking interior. It is very peaceful yet only a 10 min walk from the city centre. Our room was huge and spotlessly clean with amazing views from the balcony. The owner was very friendly and enjoyed telling us about all the places we could visit.

Big room, wonderful view from our own terrace and a really good breakfast from the friendly owner! We had no problems parking the car in the street, but maybe that is also due to not travelling in main saison. Walking up the steps from the city is also quite manageable (it was not too hot yet).

This was an incredible place to stay. It was high up on the hill, so it requires a lot of walking up stairs. (A lot of stairs!) If you walk all the way down and ask for a taxi ride back up it's 10 euro. If she offers to make you dinner, say yes! She made us a delicious Sicilian meal for 10 euro a person and we got to watch Mt. Etna from the dining room. (Consequently, it erupted during our meal and was an amazing view.) The internet was weak in our room, but we didn't have good internet anywhere in Europe this time around, so no biggie.

Room Tip: All rooms with terraces are lined up together and have the same view. The terrace is large with a t...

We stayed one night at Villa Sara and had a great time watching the eruption on mount Etna from our balcony. The B&B is situated in a very spacious old house with beautiful decoration (if you like old stuff). The rooms have big windows and a balcony overlooking Taormina and offer great views on the volcano. Breakfast was very tasteful and really home made. We travelled by car and could park it in the private garage of Villa Sara. Walking down to the city centre of Taormina takes about 10 to 15 minutes of stairs but is well worth the effort.

As with many Sicilian town destinations, we arrived a bit fraught after the sat nav yet again let us down (once we got into the usual hairpin bends and narrow old streets!). However, that mood was soon dispelled by the charming Senora Elena and the room's stunning view down the coast - totally dominated by the backdrop of smoking Mt Etna of course. We normally spend little time
at our hotels but here we really enjoyed the glorious terrace and our own bottle of wine - rather than Taormina's main 'strip' with it's crowded combination of pretentious shops and souvenir joints. Breakfast is a superb start to the day with scrambled eggs, cheese/ham and tomatoes with fresh bread, juice and coffee ... plus 'that view' again of course! Our smiling hostess was always on hand with info for what to do and where to go. Locally we would recommend the trip right to the top of Etna by cable car and big four wheel drive. Even during an active phase (but not an actual eruption of course!) they'll take you up to the top snowfield for a half hour hike. Worth paying the extra for the 4WD or you can hike a long way from the cable car. Be warned: in winter and spring it's REALLY cold at the top. Our other highlight was the little Isola Bella beach ... turn right at the bottom of the Taormina town cable car and walk about 200m along the road then take the steps down the cliff. It's picturesque and quiet off-season, with a little taverna. Lastly, Elena's recommendations on eating are worth following: Villa Greta, only 20m away and Al Saraceno up the hill a bit. You'll have to take your chances down below at the more tourist oriented eateries. But it's only 10 mins walk down and 15 mins back up - for a couple in their fifties anyway! Last tip: if driving from Catania direction, take the second Taormina exit off the autostrada (after three tunnels) and you will then get to Villa Sara easily. If you go off at Giardini Naxos or the first Taormina exit you may end up getting very stressed :@ PS. A couple of the (very few) less good reviews have mentioned having to be 'buzzed' in and out of the villa, but in our experience we were given a front door key to come and go without disturbing the lady. Also, you CAN park outside/nearby if you have a small car and pull right in to the wall - try up by Villa Greta.

Room Tip: We got the Elena Room (big & old style charm) but the three rooms are all in a row on one terrac...
