“A Gem in Taormina”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2012

Sitting on a high mountain and overlooking the blue Ionian sea, Taormina is the travel guide definition of an ideal relaxing and romantic holiday. Isoco Guesthouse has captured the key elements which has made my stay in Taormina unforgettable. I value a lot individualism and Isoco Guesthouse is very uniquely charismatic compared to the other B&Bs I have been to. Michel has done a superb job transforming the place for his guests to retreat into a serene and seclude environment to absorb the beauty of Taormina. The amount of outdoor space in Isoco Guesthouse is incredible. Comfy lounge chairs at the terrace, Jacuzzi in the middle garden or hammock in the base garden, you can always find a quiet spot to chill out with your travel companion. On the other hand, the conservatory, which is set in the middle of the garden, houses a big dining table and sofas and provides the perfect place to mingle with other guests. I really enjoyed breakfast when all the guests sat around and feast on the wide array of food spread across the dining table, chit-chatting and getting to know the other travellers. I had one of the best cheese omelettes made by extremely attentive chef David. Michel is a great host and I met a few interesting characters while staying in Isoco. Oh if you are a facebook addict like my partner, Michel provides free Wifi in the conservatory.

I will definitely go back to staying at Isoco. A little bit of tip, I had chosen to stay at Catania and Syracuse to explore the sights around the Ionion coast. But consider the closeness of the cities and the comfort that Isoco offers, I will strongly recommend making Isoco your base for exploring Sicily's Ionion coast. Last tip, big is not always good, smaller sized car works better in Sicily as the roads could be extremely narrow and navigating through them could be challenging.

What a great place to relax after we were tired from walking on Mount Etna and arrived in Taormina. Sitting between the lemontrees in the well kept lovely garden at Isoco Guesthouse, looking at the spectacular view, you feel totally relaxed. Although it said to be 'gayfriendly' in the lonely planet, other couples where more than welcome as well. You can see Michele's eye for detail in the whole place, but especially in the garden: all the little lights, places to sit, to relax and enjoy, unbelievable! And then sitting in the jacuzzi watching the stars and the sea in the distance: what a great memory we will have!
The rooms are cosey with a balcony and a great view. It is all so well taken care of. Reading the reviews here I think Michele has improved the bathrooms since they were very clean and the shower wasn't leeking at all.
The best part of the guesthouse is the breakfast: I have never had a breakfast where they put so much effort in (think: little decorations like little hearts on the edge of your plate made from fruits).
This is not a big hotel with all the luxery and very large rooms, but if you are up for something special you'll have the time of your life here! We will definately come back for sure!

This small guest house is only 5 mins from the main shopping area but totally quiet and tranquil. Fabulous rooms, all decorated in an artistic and original style. Lots of nooks and crannies in the gardens to get privacy, great hot tub for those post-Etna and mountain walks, and an amazing terrace with comfy chairs and beds for relaxing. Enormous breakfast as well with lots of choice. The host, Michele, couldn't be more helpful - talking through what to do in the area, making recommendations for restaurants and bars, and generally being a splendid chap! He even lent us big jackets for our trip up Etna, and made us a take-away breakfast as we had to leave before 7am - enough food to last the whole day!
If you want something out of the ordinary, great for quiet couples wanting a romantic get-away but still close to the bus station and main sites, you couldn't do better than this!

Room Tip: Some of the room have a sunny balcony but the bathroom is opposite (private and VERY close but you n...

for all those who enjoy special, individual places, this is probably the best place to stay in taormina.
isoco enjoys a wonderful view, lush gardens with lots of citrus trees and boasts a really grand veranda, plus: a great hot tub with view of the mediterranean. another big plus: the hot tub really is hot (this is not always the case in europe....). the house is stylishly decorated, the breakfast leaves nothing to be desired (which is extremely rare in italy), the location is really good - just 5 min walking to the center - and the host was very nice.
some might be worried because the house definetely welcomes same sex couples, but during the time we were there, we were the only ones, so it is not a "gay place". it's a good place for everyone. the rooms may be a bit basic, but the overall setting is hard to beat. parking is a bit tricky, but possible; better to rent a SMALL european car and not a big SUV. internet worked just fine.

we would definetely go back there!

PS: you do have to be able to negotiate a few steps, so it's not good for persons with disabilities.

This is a small B&B type accomodation that has artistic theme inspired rooms. We stayed in the Boticelli Room with decor to match the artist's work and a breathtaking view of seaside. The dining room overlooks the sea and is an outdoor room that has been enclosed with glass making it very comfortable while eating a breakfast as elaborate as the diner chooses. Our room was equipped with a mini-kitchen which proved to be an added convenience. Some rooms have an en suite bath. However, some have a bath located across the hallway only a step or two from the room. We were just a five minute walk from the shopping district. Everything of interest was only a short walk away. Our host, Michele, was amiable, helpful, and went the extra distance to make our stay great. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms had a sea view that was simply lovely.

We really love this place. Michelle did a great job decorating the place. He and the rest of the crew were very friendly and gave good recommendations where to eat and what to see.
The breakfast was a thing to look forward every morning. The balcony most relaxing. Hope to go back again soon!

If money is no object and you want to be pampered 24/7, stay at the San Domenico Palace, but if you want a charming, clean, with a friendly Host and at a good value, visit Isoco. Michele, the charming host/proprietor is eager to please his guests, making himself available to help in any way he can. He is a local boy, and his recommendations are good ones. The experience was well represented by the information in the web site. I noted there were several comments about the bath which is across the hall. It's a small place, so across the hall isn't very far. You get your personal key to the bathroom, so it's all yours. The property is located in a residential neighbourhood, which for me, was just fine, because even though I was a tourist, I appreciated walking to the street and not being bombarded by throngs of tourists. There's a a market just down the street and It's a short walk to the Porta Messina, the funivia and the bus terminal. This was my fourth visit to Taormina, and my choice in accomodations was right on!!!!

Room Tip: If you want the Sea View, make sure you let Michele know. From what I remember, there might be one...
