“REASONABLE FOOD SERVED ON A TERRACE WITH SUPERB VIEWS”

At the top of the approach road to the Hotel Monte Tauro, Ristorante Mirage is a modest Cafe Bar with a Terrace directly over the road from the cafe itself. The views from the terrace are absolutely fantastic and look out over the bay towards Giardini-Naxos and Mount Etna.

The food was good and reasonably priced (lasagne) - it also looked like the pizzas were well received by other guests. Because of the view, and the proximity to our hotel (Monte Tauro), it made an easy choice one night when we didn't fancy going too far.

This is what it is - a good cafe bar. Sitting on the terrace with a beer and pizza/pasta, as the sun sets, is a really pleasant experience.

Either the restaurant has changed owners, or the existing ones have bucked up their ideas, but my wife and I enjoyed a very good meal there last night. We shared a salad starter and our pizzas were very good indeed - thin crust topped with fresh and tasty ingredients. The food arrived piping hot which is always a good sign. The service was professional and exact, without undue delay. The price at a shade under 50 Euros was not the cheapest (we had good wine) but all in all a very acceptable and enjoyable meal. But don't tell anyone else - seating is limited!

Went here for a drink and to order some fries, we're not allowed to order fries if we did not order a main dish too, as we were not hungry we just got the drinks, cannot believe how rude and disinterested the waiting staff were, I really could not believe staff could be so rude, definitely a place to avoid at all costs. Also the toilets were so dirty, definitely glad we did not eat here.

Sadly we can honestly say these were the worst 2 examples of spaghetti ever, anywhere. Stodgy, sticky, stale oil, minced beef like out of a tin and the tuna one smelt and looked like cat food. Steer well clear of this place

We visited Taormina as part of a (fantastic) Azamarra cruise that started in Venice and ended in Rome. The Mirage was the perfect lunch stop after walking around the town and through beautiful gardens that overlook the sea. The Mirage has a terrace area across the street with a splendid view of the the bay. Unlike other reviews, we found the pizza and the service to be excellent. It is a little out of the downtown area but highly recommended to take a stroll through the municipal gardens then recharge the batteries at Mirage.
