“Lovely relaxing hotel”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

Lovely hotel
Great position about 5 mins walk into the main street in Taormina
Opposite bus station (but don't let this put you off as not that busy and no noise in hotel) so its just across the road for pick ups for any trips
Lovely room with big balcony, which you can watch the sunrise if up early enough (about half 5-6). Blackout curtains so really good nights sleep (always remember to shut bathroom door though).
Great sized pool which always has available sunbeds
There are around 200 steps down to the pool from the hotel, so please bear in mind when booking
We were half board and the food was lovely. A la carte menu
Helpful and friendly staff

Our room was a standard double, it was teeny, hard to get around the bed, the bathroom was also small. This aside it was plush, really nicely finished and clean.

The restaurant was average, very formal and the food was OK, we only ate there once as Taormina restaurants were far superior. We did go to breakfast each day which was OK, good choice of food.

The pool is lovely, although there are very steep steps to get to it. The gardens were well maintained and the pool bar was good too. The pool itself was regularly cleaned.

The Hotel is outside of the main town, very quiet.

Good hotel, good base to explore.

Wife and self spent a great week at this hotel. Staff excellent - food very good. But did eat out in evenings - restaurant is formal IF you like that sort of thing.
Rooms very clean.Pool excellent as 184 steps down through beautiful gardens - so pool not for those who have problems walking. No fitness centre but has tennis court.
Next to chair lift to beach. All in all very relaxing.

Room Tip: Try to choose room with a balcony

Had a great week in the hotel. The rooms are very good, clean tidy, very good bathroom. The staff are very friendly and all have a smile to offer, it just feels very welcoming. The setting is fantastic. A short walk up the hill to the town and also just below the cable car to the beach. Breakfast is consistent and plentiful with most things you would expect.
There is however a little spark missing. The pool area should be busy but isn't. I blame the beds for this. They are old plastic and uncomfortable. We spent the week on the beach paying for comfier beds.
The bar also lacks atmosphere, hardly anyone goes there as there is not much on. Pity as the barman made good cocktails.
They really are missing a trick. Please Hotel Miramare, give your customers a reason to stay during the day (pool) and an atmosphere to keep us here at night. Just a little thought into these two areas and it would be a top class hotel.
We have had a great time all the same, thanks to all.

Hotel is situated on terraces cut into the cliffside overlooking the sea and has wonderful views towards the toe of Italy. It is quiet on the sea side as there is no road nearby yet is very convenient for the bus station which is directly across the road at the back, a few minutes walk from the cable car down to Taormina Mare and about 5 - 10 minutes walk from the delightful old centre of Taormina.

This hotel is unsuitable for anyone who has difficulty with steps if they wish to access the pool and gardens as the lift only goes part of the way and then there are 185 steep steps down through the terraced gardens to reach the pool area (which is lovely, gets the sun all day, a good size and has great views).

Beware if booking a sea view room with balcony. Some rooms may have view obscured by trees and many of the balconies are extremely small (more of a wide windowsill really), JUST taking two plastic chairs sideways on, although the room itself was a decent size, had very effective blackout curtains to keep out early morning sun and good air conditioning.

Most guests stayed on bed and breakfast basis which was a good idea as Taormina restaurants are so near. The food in the restaurant was OK but monotonous (main course choice at dinner was usually fish, beef or veal). In my experience a 4* hotel in Italy usually has a wonderful selection of fresh fruits at breakfast and a delicious antipasto buffet at dinner but this did not. The only fruit we saw was an uninspired fruit salad and maybe oranges or apples at breakfast. For dessert every evening there was pannacotta, cream caramel and ice cream plus one other choice usually cake. Considering the delicious pastries available in restaurants and shops in Taormina made with local ingredients this was disappointing.

Most guests went into Taormina in the evenings for dinner and the hotel was virtually empty but then there was nothing to encourage anyone to go into the bar, which was not staffed apart from a waiter who walked through occasionally. There was no music, no folk evenings unlike other similar hotels nearby. Staff were courteous and efficient but not particularly friendly.

Overall, we would rate this hotel a 3* best for bed and breakfast but not a good choice for half board.

Room Tip: Request that view is not obscured by trees and ask for a decent sized balcony.

Awesome garden, very beautiful and well keeped.
Amazing breakfast, very Rich and delicious. Very nice and polite waiters, always with a smile, ready to serve us.
Reception staff Also, always smiling and nice. Gave us always good advise.
Wish I can come back as soon as possible!

Great position to visit the very beautiful taormina .....it was all a bit of a throw back to how would think what was very stylish in the 50s and 60s..... And she has held her age well.....staff were great......very helpful.....we lost our booking somehow and they handled it like pros...got us back in the system and into a lovely room with huge balcony over looking the sea.....high on the cliff and next to the cable car to the beach.....lovely pool at the bottom of the property.
