“Good Hotel”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Hotel Isabella has a fantastic location on the Corso Umberto in the centre of Taormina. We were given a room overlooking the sea with fantastic views of the town, Greek Theatre and Mount Etna. Room was really tastefully decorated with high quality furnishings and bedding and was very clean. It was a little small but that was nothing to complain about. It was a lovely room. The bathroom again was really nice and cleaned to a very good standard but was small, which was no problem for us but a large person may struggle with the shower.
The Lobby and reception and other public areas were really lovely and the staff were ok, the breakfast waiter was really pleasant.
Breakfast was continental and was adequate and of a good standard with the exception of the fresh fruit which was quite poor. My only complaint about the hotel was that i thought that breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace which had stunning views and would have been really pleasant but unfortunately it was served in the breakfast room which was below ground level with no windows. This was very disapointing for me!!
Overall the hotel was lovely and was clean and in a fantastic location.

Room Tip: We had room 41 which was lovely. Ask for a high floor with sea views

Hotel Isabella was a perfect base for our stay. Great location! Room was comfortable and cleaned daily with a view from the balcony which was stunning. Staff were very helpful and Franco the waiter at breakfast was charming. The continental breakfast was lovely especially when on the roof terrace. The only negative was the lift which was tempermental and broke down a few times and with being on the fourth floor was a problem when leaving with our luggage, but otherwise would definitely go back there again and Taormino an absolutely amazing place.

Having read all the previous reviews there were no real surprises at this hotel, room was very clean and comfortable and we had an adequate balcony which had good sea views. Yes the bathroom was small but perectly adequate and good quality towels were replaced every day, we also thought the bed linen was changed daily.

Having stopped in numerous hotels in a number of countries we found the breakfast to be the normal continental fare and as we only stayed for one week it didn't become too boring, the staff in the restaurant were also very pleasant.

We were fortunate that our private transfer took us right to the hotel door however the hotel is not that far from the nearest drop off point if the driver wont take you. I can see why some companies wont take you to the door as it is quite a narrow street and very busy with pedestrians, especially if a cruise ship is in.

As others have alreadty stated the best thing about this hotel is it's location, right in the centre of Taormina with plenty of good reataurants and shops close by. It's also only a short walk to the bus station if you wish to use local transport.

Others have mentioned they got charged for items from the minibar which they had not used, we had the same problem albeit for a small amount, however when we stated that we had not used the minibar this was taken off our bill.

If this hotel was not in such a good location we would only have scored it average for the price paid, if you want better and bigger facilities you are going to have to pay a lot more in Taormina as it is an upmarket place.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel have sea views, the better views are obviously from the top floor.

this hotel was very convenient to everything. Our room unfortunately was too small and dark. The shower was tiny, no large person could get in this space. The tv was quite inefficient with static. The breakfast waiter though was very friendly and efficient, his name is Francesco and he was the best staff member there (our maid was lovely too).

Room Tip: check the room first

The hotel is located directly on the main shopping street. Hotel is very clean but the bedroom and bathroom were very small. The air conditioning did not seem to work effectively. Breakfast was very basic and became very boring by the end of our stay. They could vary it with little effort and no extra cost. The lift is very small and could prove a problem when hotel is busy in summer. The desk staff were helpful but we were charged for water from the mini bar which we hadn't used. When we informed the desk staff we got no satisfaction and left the hotel on a negative note. This could have been avoided as the amount involved was very small and they should have accepted our word.

I stayed in this hotel last June and have wanted to write a review however I couldn't even remember the name as the hotel was so unmemorable. The location was great - although you couldn't drive up to the hotel (not even a back entrance to drop your luggage) so we had to leave our car in the car park outside Taormina catch the bus and then lug our cases up the hill. My room was extremely dark and I had to put lights on in the middle of the day - which turned out to be about 40 watt bulbs - didn't help much. They only served breakfast no dining room basically no amenities at all. You can find much better place for the same rates just shop around a little - the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars and not 1 is because at least it was clean.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here or if you do make sure you get a balcony

My husband and I were thrilled when the Hotel gave us a complimentary upgrade upon arrival, we went up to our room, opened the doors to our balcony and the view was amazing! We could see the sea, the Greek Theater, the charming restaurants and shops and Mt Etna all without leaving our room. The staff was very helpful, bringing ice up to our room and extra towels upon request. We weren't very successful using their computer for reservations so they contacted our transport for us and arranged a meeting spot for pick up on our last morning. All things considered we would stay here again without hesitation. The location was PERFECT, we walked everywhere we wanted to go, the hotel is lovely and the price was right.
