“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2011

In October this year I went to Sicily for the first time and stayed in the Villa Bianca, the staff were welcoming and very helpful, they did everything to make sure we had a great stay. Even when we had a few powercuts they were very helpful.

The hotel was clean and tidy and the only problems we encountered were the powercuts and the fact that there was only one small lift(only fits 2 people). This would not normally be a problem for me, but when a very large party arived we were stuck in the lobby as we were at the top of the building and the person I was travelling with could not walk up all the stairs with ease.

The sister hotel a few minutes up the road was very accomodating as we have access to their swimming pool.

All the staff were fantastic!

I loved the hotel so much that I will be going back in July 2012

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view are the best option as the view is amazing.

we were in room 904 great veiws, the rooms are small but clean. There,s a mini bus to the lido for 6 euros this is good value. The staff are pleasent and helpful. The main let down is the food which at best is very average and at worst very poor.We had good meals at the lido and in tormina and if we went again we would just go b&b.The pool is in a sister hotel up the road which is a bit to far to go after a day out.Overall the hotel is good for what you pay ,but eat out

Room Tip: rooms 904,905 great views

For the price paid for this hotel , I was satisfied with most aspects . We went one week before the end of the season and places were beginning to wind down. I prefered that. I would say it was a typical 3* Italian hotel. The rooms were very clean , there was abundant hot water and the staff were excellent , friendly and helpful. Our room overlooked the road and sea but it was fairy quiet. The bathroom was in need of updating ; cracked floor tile and hairdryer ,marks on the wall in the room and a very stiff sliding wardrobe door but I suppose they won't do anything at this late stage of the season and hopefully they will be repaired for next.
The restaurant staff were efficient and charming and we were well looked after. Ok it wasn't fine dining but typical sicilian cuisine and tasty. I hadn't gone to Sicily for "international" food. Breakfast was good especially the fresh brioche and rolls.
I would definitely go back

Stayed for a week in early September. Was given a back room in the main building it didn't have a sea view but was lovely and quiet with a balcony overlooking the back garden, palm trees and vines.
Room was a large, Good airco, and satelite TV - only CNN in English unfortunately. Bathroom spacious with a great power shower and plenty of piping hot water.
Bed was very comfortable and linen very clean and changed daily.
Breakfast was included in the deal and whilst it was pretty basic the quality was ok, range of bread rools and preserves, [astries, cold meats and cheese, cereals, yogurt, juices, fruit. Fresh coffee or tea delivered to your table.
Location of hotel was great very near the beaches allthough most of them were private there was Isola Bella nearby which is free, or a shuttle mini bus to a nearby private beach Ipanema Beach Club with a nice pebble beach or a large lido type swimming pool, this costs 6 euros per day.
Public restaurant in hotel was great tasty food and staff very efficient. Quite a few restaurants nearby too but as a lot of 4 star hotels it can tend to be a bit expensive if you don't shop around.
Taormina town is a cable car away 3.5 euro for return trip, cable car is really near the hotel so very convenient, lovely old town, very historic buildings and great photo opportunities and very chiq, prices can be pretty steep and there are lots of expensive designer shops for window shopping. If you look down the back streets you can find some bargains and good fairly cheap restaurants. Pretty hilly and not much in the way of pavements, very busy with traffic so you need to keep your wits about you when exploring.
Overall I was quite impressed with Tarrmina, when the weather is good it is hot, hot hot, when it is bad it pours, huge thunder storms on the last two nights of my stay but didn't spoil my holiday. Recommend it!

Our first time in Sicily but not in Italy. We managed to get a very good deal with Thomsons with the half board option thrown in for a penny a night each!! The hotel is in several blocks and we were lucky enough to get the building on the main road , despite road noise the views from the balcony were incredible but we were surrounded by smokers and perhaps because of the air conditioning the room on occasion was quite smelly. The accommodation itself was adequate but could perhaps do with some decorating / upgrading but for what we paid was adequate , shower was small but excellent. A good feature was that air conditioning and the safety deposit box were included in the price. Staff were reasonably friendly and the rooms were cleaned daily etc. The hotel offer a mini bus service free to the beach at the Ipanema Beach resort 1 or 2 Kilometres away. Beds and umbrellas were only 6 Euros each and there was a very good "rustic" restaurant on the beach serving a selection of seafood and pasta dishes. the beach is shingle but the sea was very clear, quite a pleasant experience.
We stayed half board (for which Thomsons are now charging several hundred pounds each) and we found the food to be quite poor. As a result we ate out the majority of nights either in Taormina or in Taormina Mare. Food is a very subjective thing and many seemed happy with what was on offer but we found the quality of the catering quite poor. Breakfast was what one expects in Italy ie continental style with the only warm item the coffee.
The hotel is in Taormina Mare which is very limited in terms of bars and restaurants all of which are low key and prone to close quite early. The hotel bar was often closed when we came down from Taormina at 11.30. On the plus side the hotel is literally at the side of the cable car (3.5 Euros return) and Taormina can be reached in 5 minutes. Taormina is very attractive but be prepared to pay significant amounts of money for drinking and eating unless you can live on the local beer and pizzas!
We went on several excursions but unlike other places we have been ,the options to travel under your own steam are very limited unless you are brave (or foolhardy) enough to hire a car. Siracusa was very interesting as was the trip up Etna. Whilst we were there the weather was exceptionally hot and numerous trips were cancelled.
All in all an average hotel worth using if you can get a reasonable deal. Taormina Mare very quiet and limited but may suit those who want a quiet holiday.

We stayed 2 nights. The room was ugly, but the worst part was that it wasn't clean. Under the bed we found sand, and dirt. The bathroom has hairs from prevoius guests. The shower was awful. The door got stuck every time you tried to open it. Breakfast consisted on canned fruit salad and bad bread. Location was the best part of it: just meters away from the cablecar. Parking was OK, though you have to leave you car keys. We payed 120 euros per night. Not worth it AT ALL. DONT RECOMEND IT.

We chose this hotel due to the good reviews and the fact that it was HB (as the Euro-GBP was dreadful) it was under £400 each for a weeks package holiday with Thomas Cook.

On arriving we were pleased with the location, right next to the Funicular/Cable Car up to Taormina centre (3.50 euros return), and the view from our room (904) was fantastic. This made up for the small, basic room (which was what I had expected for a 3* hotel).

Dinner was nice, and having a choice from a set menu rather than a buffet made it seem more special than a free for all. The options usually were between, meat (veal or chicken) fish, and omelette for main, with a varied starter and dessert option. We ate out one evening and it cost over 85e for 2 courses! (although it did make a nice change)

The hotel was always clean, and you had the option to either go to the Lido (beach) at a cost, or to the Ipenema Hotel to use the pool (free).

A fantastic holiday overall in a beautiful setting.

If you do go - look around for trips, the tour operator was charging 100 euros for etna and this was available for 70, also the trip to Castlemola was 27 and you could get the bus for 2.50.
Also try the ice cream at Gelatomania, on the Corsa Umberto, it was FANTASTIC, especially the Chocolate Mousse and Passionfruit flavour.
Have a look if there are any concerts on at the Amplitheatre, we saw Jethro Tull, and Anastasia was on 2 nights later, it was one of the highlights of our trip.
