“Charming hotel in Taormina”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Taormina is a gorgeous and fun town with a multitude of hotels to choose from. Villa Belvedere is a great place to stay while visiting. It's right on the outskirts of the busy city center--about a five minute walk from the Corso Umberto (the main street)

We booked last minute and got one of the last rooms available (I think in the whole town!) so we did not have any sort of view whatsoever. I believe we paid too much for a room without a view, though, but my fault for not booking earlier. Our window was right at street level, so we couldn't even open our blinds unless we wanted to speak to everyone walking by!

The room was nice and clean; I've stayed in more spacious rooms but also much smaller rooms, too...bathroom was large with a nice shower. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water.

We only visited the pool area once; there's way too much to do in Taormina to sit by a pool! We ate lunch there our first day and it was quite good. The pool area is very relaxing and seems enjoyable if you want to hang out. I don't think it's open all that late in the day, though-we would have enjoyed having a drink down by the pool in the afternoon, but I do not think it was open.

The breakfast each morning was quite good; there was a great array of things to choose from including scrambled eggs, bacon as well as quiche and sweet cakes and fresh fruit. Breakfast is served inside, when they do have a lovely patio where you could eat instead (but there is no convenient door to the patio from the breakfast area so no one sits out there). They have an amazing view from the breakfast room, but only two or three tables get to enjoy the view from the windows.

The front desk staff is quite helpful and sits down with you as soon as you arrive to explain the lay of the land and offer suggestions of what to do and where to go.

The parking lot for the hotel is tiny and down a very steep hill-I would not recommend keeping a car here! There is a car park a little bit up the street that is much easier to get and out of, but even that being said, I wouldn't recommend renting a car in Taormina-the roads are extremely difficult to navigate!! We returned from a day trip to the wine country at dusk and we spent two hours driving around trying to return to the hotel (some roads are pedestrian only, some are one way and there are no signs!)

Bottom line: Expensive for not having a view of this beautiful area, but I would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you'll have a view from your room before you book the hotel!

A hotel that has been in the same family for 111 years and it shows. Great care is taken with everything. An international book library on the ground floor, breakfast that you can eat in the breakfast even as early as 5.20 am with smiling lady making fresh coffee and putting out the buffet, front desk helpful at all times, beds comfortable and pillows perfect etc etc

Room Tip: We had a front (facing the sea) room and I would recommend that type of room

We had a room with a terrace with magnificent views. The hotel is centrally located a short walk from the main strip. The gardens are a delight, the front desk staff were outstanding. The pool area is perfect for either a quick snack or sun baking, plus the food from the pool bar is perfect for a light lunch. The breakfast was good, not outstanding. We had 3 nights and did not have a single complaint.Considering some of the other hotels in Sicily, this hotel should be ranked higher than 3 stars.

I am an international hotel consultant and rarely write hotel reviews but given I don't act for clients in Italy I thought some comments might assist people trying to choose a venue in Taormina (a daunting task!) Our adult family of 4 spent 8 nights in this hotel and ranked it one if our best ever hotel experiences, anywhere. Forget the 3 star ranking, its nonsense. The rooms were delightful and we recommend you don't even bother paying for water views, you will spend all your waking time in the breakfast room, wonderful pool/lunch area and other terraces- all of which look at exactly the same view. Front desk staff were all outstanding, I have clients who would employ them all tomorrow! It's incredibly well priced and every other guest we spoke to raved about it like us (so the Tripadvisor comments come as no surprise) BRAVO!

We booked one of their new ultramodern apartments down the street. It is one of the most beautifully designed rooms I have ever stayed in. My one complaint is that they will only give you one of the vey expensive keys that control the power as well as the door lock. It was a real pain to coordinate. The balcony is a little too small and without shade to be of much use. It also overlooks the street so we often sat poolside at the villa. The villa clientele are mainly older Brits with the annoying habit of putting their stuff on the sun loungers with the best views and then disappearing for hours. The desk staff all do a fantastic job of making recommendations and reservations as well as responding to the many needs of their guests. Serving staff are also very pleasant and attentive.

We just returned after having spent 4 days at the Villa Belvedere. It was a lovely hotel, very comfortable, with 5 floors built into the hillside. Many rooms have balconies or terraces of varying sizes, with spectacular views across the bay towards Etna.
The access by car was interesting as our GPS led us through the city gates and some very narrow pedestrian streets to get to the Via Bagnoli Croci, which is a one-way street. Tip: ignore the GPS and make a right hand turn instead of going through the city gate. This will take you around the city centre; yes, a bit longer but you'll then avoid the crowded shopping streets.
Once at the hotel, they take care of your car for a €15 fee per day.
The hotel staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout our stay, Ms. Fulvia in particular.
The rooms were very comfortable and clean, although we would have preferred an even softer bed. The air-con in our room (#60) was too noisy to leave on at night.
The breakfast was good, nothing spectacular, but more than adequate. There was a kettle in our room, but we had to remind the staff to refill it with coffee supplies. The in-room fridge (empty) also worked well.
The common areas were nicely furnished and comfortable. The lobby bar was open 24h and the poolside bar/restaurant served drinks and a nice lunch. The wi-fi worked well throughout the entire hotel, including both our top-floor room and the pool area 6 floors below.
Although not cheap, we thought it was worth the splurge, and hope to return some day.

Room Tip: The superior rooms with balconies and views are very nice, and we did enjoy sitting out there with o...

Lovely, well maintained, clean property, with very friendly, helpful staff. It started out a little rocky. I reserved an ocean view room with a balcony. I was assigned a room on floor minus one - yes, minus one. The view was almost completely obstructed by trees. After two days of asking to be moved to a higher floor, I was moved to the top floor. It had an amazing view, with the entire outside wall of my room glassed in. So whether I was laying in bed, or out on the beautiful balcony, I could see the coast. It also had a beautiful walk in shower, with a window to the ocean. The breakfast in the morning was part of the room charge and was very nice as well. Be aware, if you drive a car there, the streets are treacherous and the driveway to the hotel is impossible. I walked everywhere. Into the main area of town was about a 15 minute walk. Also had free internet, which many of the hotels in town did not have internet access at all - even the larger ones. And, had air conditioning, which many of the hotels did not. Taormina was a humid, hot town in September. Air conditioning was a must! I am very grateful to the staff for taking care of my change of room request - you could tell that they truly cared about their guests.
