We found this place accidently, and were very happy that we did.

We started with a selection of antipasto. Very good! You got to love that grilled cheese!

This was my first lasagna during this trip, and damn it was good! Few others that I ate, were not near as good.

We walked down an alley in Taormina because we try not to eat on any main drag when we are overseas. We were not disappointed when we looked at the menu and they had about 40 different pizzas to choose from. We ended up getting a spinach and feta calzone as our main course which was delicous. The feta is unlike any we have had in the states. We ended up with a Honey, nut and pear pizza that wound up being dessert. It was an odd combination for a pizza but it was spectacular. We highly recommend this place and will be looking for this pizza at home!

Having spotted the sign, we followed the arrow up the stone steps from Curso Umberto, down a side street into the restaurant, and, once inside, pass the kitchen and up a narrow winding stairs, emerging into a small open-air dining area, covered and shielded from the wind by heavy plastic panes on this blustery March day. Not much in the way of ambience, but with strategically placed pole heaters, the "dining room" at Varo's was surprisingly comfortable and quite suitable for dining while without the wind battered and the rain pelted ineffectually. A vegetarian pizza, a mixed salad and a half carafe of the very palatable house white further set a mood of contentment. Here in plebian surroundings is excellent pizza at moderate price. Are the Sicilians even capable of producing a bad pizza? I noted that another couple seated nearby had taken the full carnivore route, and were obviously enjoying large cuts of beef, the accoutrement of a banquet feast arrayed about them, all washed down with a bottle of a superior branded vintage. So, here is obviouisly full dining.

We bumped into this restaurant by accident for lunch. We did not fancy an actual meal, as we were looking for arancini on the run, but everything else was closed.
Then this place seemed so relaxing and sitting outside, sipping a beer, with no one around felt great.
We ordered a Parmigiana (yummy!), a Focaccia, a selection of cold meats from the mountains with honey (very special to have goose salami, wild boar ham and horse meat) and an Etna Salad with Porcini Mushrooms. We love rustic flavours and this is what it was all about.

The pizzas here were fantastic. I had a white pizza, which was the best I've ever had, and my husband got a traditional pizza with red sauce, which he loved. Only thing is that the service is a bit slow and appetizers probably won't arrive before the main course.
