During our holiday in Taormina area we went several time in Taormina for a walk and for visiting sights.
Corso Umberto is definitely an elegant street where you can find shops, bars and restaurants; narrow streets on the left and right side lead you to discover lots of other attractions.

Corso Umberto is a beautiful little street, and a cannolo and cuppuccino at the ETNA pasticceria is a delight (doesn't come cheap but it's worth it!). But the flow of tourists and the luxury bioutiques make it like many of the shopping streets anywhere - Via Condotti or Via della Spiga. Maybe it's nicer in winter?

trying to find a gelateria with seating was not easy, but we did succeed in the end - there is one on the left as you go toward the Messina gate about halfway - recommend the brioche and icecream!
