“Magnificent 5 star service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

You arrive at the top of the hill overlooking Taormina and the sea and you enter a fresh welcoming, sumptuously furnished reception and sitting room. Ahhhh. Would we like to head out to the terrace for a drink? Why yes. They bring us prosecco and a cannoli. We didn’t expect our room would be ready by noon; we really just needed to drop off our luggage but they got our room ready anyhow and parked our car for us.

We had a classic room with a little balcony facing mount Etna, the town and sea. I remember our room furnished in orange and turquoise. Large bathroom with full size tub and all the amenities you’d expect in a 5-star hotel.

So as we’re enjoying our prosecco, one of their amazing staff comes by with a map to see what we need. He explains the free shuttles to and from the town centre. We ended up just taking the stairs in which took maybe 20-25 minutes. He tells us there is a tea with all the goodies at 4:00, happy hour with hors d'oevres at 6:00. We popped in for happy hour and wow were we happy – food was fantastic! You buy your drinks but the food is complimentary.

We also ate dinner here. There isn’t exactly a restaurant, “just a momma making simple food”. But there were menus with more selection than we expected, very lovely service and the terrace was full.

Breakfast is mind blowing. The bar was covered with antipasti, meats and cheeses – each with their own compote. Another table has the pastries and fruits. Another table has juices, prosecco, cereals, nuts, toast. And then there are two chafing dishes – one with eggs and bacon another with a flaky ham and cheese tart. Elegant setting and service.

Rosaria, the owner, came by to introduce herself. She offered to take us in her car to the surrounding villages and show us around. She has a few properties in town – such as luxury apartment rentals. When she asked us how our stay was, she really did want to know. Not content to just hear “fine thanks”. Staff is truly remarkable and take this place to five stars.

For our send off (after 1 night), they gave us a map and advice, bottles of water for our drive, and a gift of a ceramic dish and home fragrance.

Room Tip: We had a room right under the terrace and could hear the chairs moving above in the morning. But if...

The reviews before said it all, this is a perfect place. What we enjoyed the most, was the view from the teracce. It is just amazing. Dinner is excellent, we really enjoyed the home-made cooking and the personalised dinner. The staff is really great, they really care about you and to make your stay pleasant. We visited the Hotel Villa Carlotta as well which is owned by the same family, and I have to say the staff there is also great. We had a lovely dinner there, and they treat you just as you would be a guest of their hotel. We also liked our room a lot, it was nicely decorated and comfortable. The shuttle service was also very efficient. We went down to the center a couple of times. I think it is better to eat at the hotel or at Villa Carlotta than in one of the touristic restaurants at the city center. Breakfast was also very good, the only thing I missed was the fresh orange juice.

Large well-appointed rooms in a spectacular location high above the sea and the crowds of the city with spectacular views below and toward Mt. Etna above. The ownership and staff were amazingly helpful, attending to our every need at any time, day or night. One of the most pleasant hotel experiences we have encountered ANYWHERE.

This is a beautifully appointed hotel in a spectacular location. Everything is elegant beginning with the complimentary drink offered at checkin. We loved the buffet breakfasts (included in the price) served on a lovely terrace overlooking the sea. They feature an extensive array of well-prepared foods and baked goods. Complimentary high tea each afternoon is equally impressive. The staff could not be more gracious and helpful. We cannot wait to return.

It could be the beautiful view, the wonderful location, the delicious food and it is all of that but what makes the place special is the staff; I wished they all worked for me!

Just a great place to stay and looking forward to doing it all over again next year.

It’s not hard to figure out why Villa gets such outstanding reviews. It is not the location, high up on the hill and a ways from the town. It is not the room, some outdated and a little worn, but comfortable. It’s not the quiet, on a busy street (though busy is relative in Sicily) and in a neighborhood where dogs bark and the horse neighs. It’s not for the great air conditioning, nor for the great wifi. Nor the beautiful bathrooms which all seem to be redone. The views from the lounge/restaurant are great, as is the food, snacks, and dinner service. The reason this is such a fabulous place is that the staff is the best I have ever encountered. Call for a latte, within 5 minutes it is delivered perfectly to your door, ask for a dinner reservation and it is made, confirmed, and your ride to town is arranged. Take advantage of all they know about the area. They remember your drink, smile, and are all very interesting individuals.
It is relaxing and unique. I do not hesitate to highly recommend it.

VillaDucale, Owner at Hotel Villa Ducale, responded to this review, November 4, 2013
Dear Maria 35,
thank you very much for the so many praises regarding our staff. It is true we have an amazing staff, a wonderful team of people all focused on our guests satisfaction and I believe the happiness of living and working into a small piece of paradise is shown off.
But let me tell you that I believe Villa Ducale is not only all about the staff; our small luxury boutique hotel of Taormina offers more. Our rooms are not outdated, they were completely remodeled in 2012 by famous Interior design architects and so are all pretty new. Also let me tell you that there are not horses neighs, maybe you intended to be funny but in Sicily horses in town we do not have; barking dogs sometime as we are in a residential part of Taormina where luxury villas owners have dogs but once you shut the window, there is no noise at all.
Again , mille grazie for your beautiful review and thank you for recommending us so much.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Rosaria Quartucci, owner and GM

The courtious, thoughtful, helpful staff is only one reason to stay here. When we checked in the manager spent 20 minutes with us on the terrace explaining the Villa, offering advice on walking trips which would provide good photo ops, recommending restaurants and pointing out the sites of Taormina. They have arrangements for shuttles to the beaches for a very resonable fee,18E. The rooms are spacious, well maintained and clean. The Villa is a large B&B with personal service. Breakfast is excellent and dinner on the terrace with it's fantastic views can't be beat. Not to mention the food is great. When we return to Taormina this is the place we will stay. It is not city center, but their free shuttle service down to the city is excellent. So, service, great rooms, fantastic views and good food and wine--what more could you ask for?

Room Tip: The Villa is two buildings separated by the typical narrow Sicilian street. Our room was a suite wit...
