After reading the reviews for this hotel, I decided to book a superior room as I thought they were the refurbished ones. When we checked in, we were shown a small room on the -2 level which although did have a nice terrace and view, had a really shabby bathroom – no bath, just a tiny shower tray with a small curtain around it. I can honestly say I have never seen a hotel bathroom like it.
We went back to reception and were told that the hotel was full but we could try back the next day and they might be able to give us a different room. As we were only there for a few nights, we decided to unpack and make the best of it. However the first time we tried to shower, the whole bathroom ended being flooded. In the end we worked out the only way was to put lots of towels down on the floor and just have a very careful hand shower - this really was not what I expected for £200.00 per night!

After the disappointment when we arrived, I initally wanted to give this hotel a 1 star but the staff were all very nice and did their best to help and overall we did have a nice holiday. Also the hotel is in a good location and the pool area is beautiful as are the views of Mount Etna and the coast. It's just a pity that we were fobbed off with a room that had a bathroom that could definitely not be called superior..

Room Tip: Paying for a superior room doesn't mean you get a superior bathroom!

We came back about two weeks ago from Taormina. A very enjoyable holiday. We were at the Hotel Villa Diodoro. A very beautiful Hotel, fantastic views and good location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good food and plenty. The dinning area staff were helpful and friendly, especially Angela, always happy and with a big smile!. Lots to see around this beautiful Island.
We hope to return back in the near future.

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor with a sight-see view and rooms are very comfortable and you can sit on...

It is a real shame. This is a great hotel property, but it is staffed by impersonal employees who are indifferent and will not admit to a shortcoming nor do they know how to apologize or say, "Thank you." The breakfast in the restaurant is staffed by helpful personnel, but the food selection is barely average quality and not representative of a four star hotel charging the level of prices this hotel commands. The property is understaffed. Something is wrong when a hotel runs out of towels. We wanted to take a mid-day shower in anticipation of a night out. When we went to our rooms after touring, there were no towels and no explanation. When I went to the front desk, I was coldly advised that we would have towels in 30 minute...6:15 p.m....with no explanation and no apology. I could go on, but won't.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a renovated room.

We were blown away by this hotel. Amazing views of Mt Etna. High up on the mountain the views in every direction were beautiful. An easy walk into town and a free shuttle bus to a sister hotel at the beach with full use of chairs and umbrella made this hotel a no brainer. The rooms were well appointed and had large balconies. Hot breakfast was included in a large dinning room. There was also a large pool.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on an upper floor facing Mt Etna

Good 4-star hotel. The large pool area has an outstanding view with ample deck chairs & umbrellas. Our room was clean and comfortable - some may say the bathrooms are a little dated but ours was perfectly functional. Opt for a sea view if possible. The reception and lounge areas are elegant but the dining room is dated and could definitely do with a revamp (remove those drapes, the view is too good to even partially obscure!) There is a lovely terrace off the dining room but unfortunately there was no option of taking breakfast in this outdoor shaded area. We stayed half-board for 12 nights. There isn't a buffet at dinner but all food is well presented, plentiful, varied and tasty. We would have liked more fresh fruit on offer at the breakfast buffet i.e. melon &/or bananas. The pastries however are excellent. All the staff are very friendly and obliging. Location is excellent - close enough to the centre, but outside the hustle & bustle. We would return.

My wife and I had a one week half board holiday booked through Citalia starting 4 June 2013. We found the entire trip to be of good value and a great success. The hotel is very well situated with access to the town just a few minutes walk away. The restaurant provided a wide selection of well prepared, well presented food. The service was excellent.

One is given access to the sister hotel Caprina and a shuttle bus was available for this purpose. The sister hotel, although very modern and on the beach, proved to be extremely isolated and we were very glad we had not chosen it for our holiday

Room Tip: Pay the small supplement to have a room overlooking the sea with a direct view to Mount Etna. All s...

Not much to add to previous reviews in terms of accommodation, restaurant quality, price and service , and yes ask for a cappucino waiters are very willing to help. We were a couple of senior citizens and had no problems walking up to the main areas. Traffic can be chaotic outside the hotel so we walked through the public gardens so were able to cut out most of the traffic. The swimming pool is well sited overlooking the bay but quite a trek down steep steps and of course up again. Towels free and a snack bar await you, as well as loungers and parasols.

Room Tip: aim for upper floors those floors on sea side below floor 0 can be noisy if an event or reception is...
