Owner description: The view of Mount Etna and the sea beyond is absolutely superb at Taormina's 10,000-seat ancient Greek amphitheater, which was erected in the third century BC and expanded by the Romans.

“Premier archaeological site in Taormina”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Well-preserved remains of an old Greek amphitheater. A must-see. Go early on a hot day - there's not much shade.

“Must see”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

This theatre built originally by the conquering Greeks into the sloping hill of Mt. Tauro during the 3rd Century B. C. later reconstructed and enlarged by the Romans. This shows the ingenuity and love of the Greeks for the great outdoors and ergonomically constructing structures both pleasing to the eyes and environmentally functional.

Climb to the back and top of this massive theatre and see Mt. Etna, the Ionian Sea and one spectacular view you will not forget.

“Great old ruin with Etna as a backdrop”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Definitely worth a visit, with a great view of Etna. Suggest that you go in the early or later part of the day for two reasons, if you are are photographer the ruin is in shadow in the middle of the day and the location also attracts lots of tour groups so you would have it more to yourself.
