Didn,t book. Possibly a mistake? Was shown into an inside table. Took half an hour for our order to be taken. Whan the food arrived it could be best descibed as fast food delivered slowly. Quality was low. Staff were obviously overworked, and the atmosphere was zero. Our only really poor night in Taormina.

This place out of many in Taormina offers good food, excellent wines and an exceptional quick and efficient service. Whilst you wait you get an on the house aperitif. the Pizzas are really good and the wines exquisite. the price is a bit high for the meal, but the rest compensates for it.

Taormina has MANY restaurants - and the menus are pretty much the same - some simply more seafood oriented and some more pizza/pasta oriented. La Botte bridges the two respectably and offers some really good fresh seafood dishes as well as decent pizza/pasta dishes at a standard price. Their beef carpaccio is outstanding and my favorite in all of Taormina. It has a really nice location just a bit off the Corso Umberto at the Porto Messina end, which is reflected in the prices not being a steep as those similar menus found on the Corso. The outdoor seating area is under a beautiful bougainvillea trellis that makes it nice and cool, even in the deadly hot midday July weather. The indoor seating is also nice as it is the atmosphere of a bodega. It is a spacious restaurant and they have good seating for the largest parties - which is sometimes difficult to find in town. They have a really nice selection of very affordable and delicious Sicilian wines. If I have one criticism, it is that the service could be more friendly and attentive - they should definitely work on that and I would then give them a rating of very good.

This restaurant lives on its reputation, as the endless photos of film stars and directors on the walls and plasma screen remind you. However, though the food was pretty good - I especially recommend the carpaccio of octopus, which was unusual and delicious, and the artichoke ravioli - the attitude was less than welcoming and we were given a small table for four at the back when there were much better tables available. You really felt like a number in a high numbers game, as this is a very popular restaurant - pack 'em in and send 'em out again. There was no 'courtesy' bruschetta or dessert wine on the house as elsewhere and no great sense of hospitality of any kind. The waitresses were preening and self-interested - the worst and most indifferent in town, when service in other restaurants was top-notch. Worth a one-off visit perhaps to stare at the photos, but I expected better. The OTT silly plates say it all.
