Gianni House
Ranked #58 of 115 Taormina B&B and Inns
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Location = I thought I'd prefer staying IN Taormina, but this was perfect. Kind of in between Giardini Naxos and Taormina, I was able to spend the morning on the beaches, then easily catch a bus up the hill to Taormina. Very easy and budget friendly for a college student (and her boyfriend =)

Staff = wonderful! Gianni can be a host and/or a friend. We were able to check in early and leave our luggage after checkout. Pasta party was a treasured memory, and makes Gianni House so unique. The staff speaks English very well, they can recommend food, sites to see, or discuss life in general ;)

Shower/hot water = Can be tricky, just remember to ask if they don't tell you. There IS hot water but you have to play with the switch in the shower.

Rooms = clean and cheery. We got a little balcony that faced the backyard towards the sea. Beautiful!

"Pros": The stuff is brilliant, really helpful and speak good english, the atmosphere is amazing, you feel like you are in italian family. There is always someone in the reception so you can get help during all day. Near the reception is a small refrigerator where you can buy water, juice, light alcohol, if you forgot to do it in town. Big beach towels are avaliable for rent for 5 euro. The location is a strong plus: you walk to recanati (busstop, huge supermarket, many cafes and restaurants, main discos of Giardini) in 5min, to recanati beach - in 7-10. The bus stop is just by the hostel, there is also a nice bakery where you can try cannoli, ice cream and lots of other sweets.

"Cons": As the temperature was around 35 degrees in the night, it was really hard to sleep due to the absence of air condition. We left the room about 1-2 pm every day and no one cleaned it or changed towels during 5 days of our stay. Also, they claim to have check-in at 4 pm, but my room was ready only at 8 pm.

There's no hot water. This was the most expensive hostel we stayed at on our trip to Sicily, yet there was no hot water. You are not allowed to have any outside alcohol. So, if you imagine sipping wine on the roof, you will have to buy theirs at 8 euros a bottle. The photos look much nicer than the actual place..trust me.

I stayed here for a week and it was so much fun to meet all the people from all over the world, and make friends, and even get to have dinner like we were family! The food that Gianni makes is fantastic, and we even got to try local Sicilian specialties as a treat from him. The place is very clean and the rooftop is amazing...so relaxing up there and I even got to watch Mt Etna erupt from up on the roof. It's really close to three different beaches, and the bus to Taormina picks you up right out front, and only takes 15 minutes. The staff will also make you feel right at home. Loved it here!!!

The hostel has a central location and the public connections are really good. All persons of this clean and beautiful hostel are really friendly. The housemade Pasta is legendary and you have to try it. The rooms are really comfortable and every room has his own toilett and shower. We will come again in summer!
