“Great place to stay in Taormina area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2014

Great location: just opposite to the train station and couples of minutes of walk to the seaside. Also, about 30 mins of enjoyable walk to Taormina centre, but you can also take a bus, the bust stop is near too.
Rooms look new, newly renovated and well decorated: you will definitely feel home. They are bright with high ceilings. Furniture & facilities are new & very clean as well. Davide asked for our breakfast preferences each day and they were great. Both him and Liya were extremely helpful with any questions and requests. We also had a great tour to Etna and winery with Davide. Highly recommended accommodation. I thank my hosts very much and hope to have an opportunity to see them again in the future!

We spent four days at Agon in late March. It is located on the main road and close to Taormina, but out of the crowded craziness. And there is parking. Parking in Taormina is terrible, so you will be really grateful for the parking in front of Agon. Our room was bright, very comfortable, beautifully painted and designed. Pristine clean. Davide or Lya came by each day for breakfast and chatted with us. They are the best: Charming, knowledgeable, kind and humorous. We hired Davide for a day on La Montagna (Etna). He knows his vulcanology and the total ecology of the area. We spent the full day with him, talking nonstop (except during the wine tasting.) One of the best guides we've had in 30 years of travel/exploration. We recommend without hesitation, except...

Google maps was wrong and the road signs are absent or misleading. There is no sign for Agon you can see from the road; it is painted on the front of the building. You see it from the parking lot. Driving from Catania, toward Taormina there is no sign on the train station next to the parking lot. The stairs up to the B&B are narrow and a bit steep. (Don't be dismayed by the buildings that surround Agon. It is a gem inside.) And, we recommend the off seasons, spring and fall, for Taormina and the surroundings. The place is badly over developed and the roads were not made the kind of traffic they must see in high summer.

Room Tip: The front room has a balcony and view of the sparkling blue bay (and the parking lot).

My mom and I spent 8 nights at B&B Agon. From the moment we arrived, the owners, Davide and Lya, made our stay memorable and enjoyable. Every morning, Davide would bring us fresh ricotta filled croissants, cannoli and cookies from a nearby bakery and spend breakfast talking to us about Mount Etna, Taormina and answering all our questions. The B&B is very clean, modern and each room has been personally decorated by Davide and Lya. It is located near a bus stop to the centre of Taormina and is across from the train station where you can go to Syracusa. While we were there, Davide also took us to a winery and to Mount Etna. An excellent day in Sicily! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!

Just returned from a long weekend in Sicily spending our last 3 nights at Agon. A warm greeting from Davide our host and a very comfortable and equipped double room welcomed us. Davide was a charming host and incredibly helpful with places to visit and recommended an excellent local restaurant. Our highlight? A day with Davide exploring Mount Etna(what Davide does not know about this mystical and spiritual place is not worth worrying about!) then a trip to a local vineyard for a superb wine and food tasting extravaganza. Grazi grazi.

If the Eastern Coast of Sicily (Messina, Taormina, Naxos, Catania, and Syracua) is a destination for you, the Agon is perfect with its setting next to the bus and railroad stations in Taormina. Not only is the B & B clean and attractively appointed, but Davide Federico is a certified guide who can tell you about everything you want to see and take you on trips if his schedule allows (make arrangements beforehand). Federico not only is a professional among Mt. Etna guides, but he knows wines and foods. As academics, we highly recommend him for tourists who want to learn about people, culture and a country's flora/fauna. Davide makes Sicily personal for you so that not only do you want to learn this region better, but you want to maintain a friendship with one of its residents.

Room Tip: Sea front room may be a good choice

This was our second stay at Davide and Lya's B&B and we cannot speak highly enough of the care, attention, advice and friendship given by them both, not to mention the huge benefit of Davide's experience and knowledge of Mt Etna. We far prefer the location near the beach (we only had to walk 150m to swim, which we did a number of times in late October) and we liked being away from the centre of Taormina in a quieter environment. As we arrived and departed by train, it was very easy and convenient to access the B&B which is a very short stroll from the station. We ate at Roberto's in Giardini Naxos a number of times which was great and we also ate in Taormina.

As many have said, the B&B is spotless, rooms are very comfortable and traffic noise is minimal especially if the windows are closed. As there were 5 of us travelling together, a big advantage was having a communal living area and access to the kitchen. Breakfasts are plentiful and delicious with always something different each day - we had the most delicious quince croissants one morning and also beautiful little fresh pears.

The best day of our 5 week trip to Italy, was the day of the Mt Etna eruption. Davide had warned us the night before that he was expecting something to happen and to be ready. Early the next morning he messaged us to say the eruption was happening and 10 minutes later he arrived to pick us up. What followed was the most incredible experience and one we'll never forget. We drove to a certain point and then walked for half an hour or so where we had the most amazing view of Etna with no-one else around. We spent some hours watching and were lucky enough to see a second eruption at the same time. Later, we stopped at a honey farm on our way to the other side of Mt Etna and that was also a worthwhile experience - they had a big variety of honeys and many other things to taste. We were only allowed to go up to 2500m on Mt Etna due to the eruption, which was still happening, but the view was also fantastic and the sound was unbelievable.

To cap off an incredible day, we stopped at a winery on our way home for a wine tasting. We had never experienced a wine tasting like it! The wines were great and the tastings extremely generous, but the food was amazing and plentiful and just kept coming.

Davide also took us on a day trip to Noto, Modica and Ragusa which was another wonderful day. We spent a week at B&B Agon, but there are still many things we didn't get to do, so we will definitely return in the future.

Changed our original booking after reading the reviews and I'm so glad we did! Outstandingly helpful and charming hosts, well connected transport wise, pretty and spotless accommodation. Didn't miss being in the main town, which is busy and touristy. And touring Etna with Davide was the coolest experience. Believe the reviews, do yourself a favour and stay at this wonderful B&B.
