Description: "La Capinera" is considered one of the best Italian restaurants. Michelin starred and consecrated by critics and the most prestigious international circuits, combines the creativity of the chef D'Agostino with regional typicality of excellence, creating the best reinterpretation of the Sicilian culinary tradition. From fish to vegetables, from Slow Food to the numerous Sicilian oils: the quality of raw materials is the other side of the success of La Capinera (along with the chef's touch, of course). The restaurant is located in Taormina mare, comfortably away from the bustling tourist center of the small and cantilevered on the splendor of the Ionian sea. The interiors reflect the chef's philosophy: elegant and comfortable environment, but able to communicate with the friendly and pleasant simplicity typical of the experience "La Capinera". The terrace in the summer, offers further unique suggestion: flavors, colors and scents of the Mediterranean, to be returned to lovers of beauty.

“Very good food, nice staff”
Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

Went for dinner 3 weeks ago, found the food very innovative, well presented and the chef took time to "come out" and illustrate the different origins of fish and ways food was cooked. I found this fun and kind... Well done. Highly recommended for sofisticated customers.

“Sadly disappointing”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

I have to agree with earlier reviewers: food is good, not great, and
beautifully presented. However the service is cool, mostly unhelpful and definitely without charm, especially the lady who seemed in charge. For a Michelin starred restaurant, this is really unacceptable.

When we asked for a wine recommendation, the sommelier asked one brief question about what we wanted and then disappeared. A bottle appeared, with no commentary, no indication as to price (which was moderate), and no discussion as to whether there were alternative choices. We would have had to make a bit of a scene to object which didn't seem worth the fuss. Not how I like to pick a wine.

As above, food was lovely. However a bit of exposition about what we were eating would have been appreciated and appropriate.

“Worst Michelin* restaurant we have been to”
Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

We carefully chose this restaurant for our last meal in Taormina having had some superb food in the town during our stay. This was sadly a huge disappointment.

We have been to various Michelin star restaurants in various countries and this is easily the poorest in terms of food, service and the toilets. I cannot understand how it got its star.

To highlight just a few of the disappointments:

- we both ordered the same starter and somehow managed to get different starters, neither of which were what we asked for! We mentioned this to the waitress and ate them anyway as they looked good and they were OK. No real apology though and we paid for what we had (which were more expensive than what we ordered)
- the tuna main was sold as a pink tuna steak but turned up as a medium steak that was no better than most people could do at home
- they gave our mains to the wrong table (quite amazing given that there were only 3 tables eating) and then, when they realised, they just went and took the plates from one table and moved them to ours
- I have no issue pouring my own wine but when they insist on keeping the wine away from the table I expect the waitress to keep me topped up. I had to eventually get up and walk across the room to get my wine and pour it myself!
- the main waitress was sat on the phone for about half the meal and it didn't sound like she was taking orders
- the toilets are terrible, nowhere nearly the standard I would expect of a michelin starred place

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone I am afraid, particularly as there are so many nice places to eat in Taormina.

“Fine dining”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

I rather review places where we had a great experience and happy to recommend. This restaurant is a tricky one. The food was ok but hasn't blown us away especially considering the prices. We did expect a bit more from a Michelin starred restaurant. As mentioned from others the location is not very romantic and the service is efficient but without charm.

“Restaurant closed inspite of confirmed reservation!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

We booked a table at La capinera in July 2013 and got an personalised booking confirmation shortly after.
When we arrived at the restaurant this night, the restaurant was closed, we hardly found it as everything was dark and closed! On The door, there was no sign..we drove back to the hotel!
Considering that La capinera is a Michelin-stared Restaurant and that we got a booking confirmation for our table, this is an unacceptable shame!!
