Description: A magnificent villa of the 15th century splendidly restored, is the ideal setting of the restaurant-pizzeria "Granduca". Reception rooms, terraces and the garden all have a view of the sea and the greek theater, which give your meeting and receptions distinction. Cucine is typical from Sicily. It's a pleasure to eat, not only for the quality meals, but also for the beauty of the place.

Lonely Planet Italy 2012 loved this pizza place but can't see we agree. First of all, it's more of a formal restaurant than a pizza joint. And second of all, the pizza was only so-so. Third of all, my green salad (just greens, nothing else) was just that, lettuce. And fourth, my catch of the day in pistacchio was okay but nothing spectacular. The waiter, while not exactly rude, was hardly friendly. The view was nice though but otherwise, we were unimpressed and disappointed in Lonely Planet.

We stopped here for lunch while visiting Taormina. Had read a couple good things and thought we would stop. We were seated on the deck with a great view, but it seemed that no one wanted to take care of us. When someone did stop by she mode the menu to show we could only have pizza. Not all in our party wanted pizza, but we complied. We then sat for a long time waiting for someone to take our order (even by Sicilian standards) although we watched as others were served. We finally placed our order and then saw others around us being delivered salads and other menu items. When our pizza finally came (others who arrived after us received there food before us), it was quite excellent! The crust was the best I have ever had. So if you want a great pizza and are not worried about service (maybe you will be one of the lucky ones) I would definately stop. If not pass by as there are many good restaurants on the street.

Have been there on two occasions when in Taormina this summer.
The first is worth mentioning as we were there for a pizza ( only served down at the terrace ) on a crowded Saturday night. The only tables available were facing a strong wind which made it very uncomfortable to sit outside - the manager agreed for us, a table of four, to have pizza up at the restaurant and 'sacrificed' a table for six to allow us to eat. I was impressed by it.
On both occasions food was very tasty with abundant portions. Staff is kind, attentive and organized.

Wonderful food. Weird service. One order came after everyone else had eaten. They won't let you pour your own wine. Fun.
