If you are visiting Taormina, you expect a tourist destination and so finding good food is not always expected. We chose this restaurant from reviews. It has a lovely view over the square. Service was excellent with a charming, informative English speaking waiter. Food was solid: chunky tuna and sea bass relying on the fresh ingredients rather than the imagination of the cooking.

The spot may seem like a tourist trap right on the Duomo plazza. Actually the staff is nice and the food is good.

We really enjoyed the lovely food, wine and the personal, attentive service. Good food and wine recommendations that worked well for what we we requested. Well worth going to.

We went to the Duomo restaurant, having been recommended the place by a colleague. The weather was slightly windy and on the cold side and we asked nevertheless to be seated on the terrace. The waiters were not that keen on it at first as it was cold but nevertheless agreed to let us do that. We appreciated the flexibility.

We saw that there was a tasting menu (surprise from the chef ie you don't know what you are going to get) and opted for that. We told the waiters we only had 90 minutes to eat (a tall order for 6 dishes) but they told us they could prepare the food to match our timing and they did in fact deliver. So again we appreciated the flexibility and the service.

The dishes were as follows:

1 - Carpaccio of grouper fish and red prawns. Very nice, very fresh. Excellent dish
2 - Fried breaded sardines + orange segments salad. Very unusual but again very fresh
3 - Melanzana Parmagiana. Nicely cooked and very melting aubergines.
4 - Gnocchi with salt cod. Nice dish too, very well executed. Though perhaps a bit rich after the aubergines
5 - Swordfish with cabbage. Excellent fresh fish.
6 - Deconstructed canolo (which they called Ricotta mousse) served with biscotti and a glass of Muscato. Excellent too.

Overall we were really pleased with the selection of dishes, the freshness of the ingredients and also the very friendly and accommodating service. It was certainly one of the best meals we have had during our 9 days in Taormina. The setting with direct view onto the Duomo was also very good and romantic. If you can ask for a terrace table.

We enjoyed this restaurant which is small and quiet considering it is so near to all of the action in Taormina. There is a classy feel to it with good tablewear and courteous staff. I enjoyed excellent sea bass accompanied by French fries while Mary had a very nice pasta and salad - all complimented by a decent and reasonably priced local chardonnnay.

Sadly the gloss was taken off the evening when a pickpocket posing as a flower seller nicked a 50 euro note which I had set on the table to pay the bill. I I really don't know why it is so common in Southern Europe to find one's meal spoilt by having to fend off such people as flower sellers and listen to wandering musicians playing music you would rather not hear and then being expected to give them money?
