My partner and I decided to try this restaurant. Frankly, we were both disappointed and the food wasn't all that great.

I ordered a green salad and expecting the greenery to be a bit more exciting, ie., rocket, cucumber and various lettuce leaves. However, it turned out to be an iceberg lettuce sliced up, nothing else added. They still charged us 4 Euros for this dreadful "salad".

I would not eat here again and frankly, would rather go hungry.

Was expecting a good evening having researched TripAdvisor beforehand. The restaurant is nicely located down from the Corsa Umberto. We sat outside on the street , it was reasonably busy. My starter of Gnocchi Pesto was excellent and my wife's lasagne was fine. My main of seafood risotto was a big letdown. Now I'm no expert, but a plate of Uncle Ben's rice in a sauce topped with mussels and clams is not the risotto I'm used to. My wife didn't enjoy her 5 grilled prawns at €16. The side dish of salad at €4 (grated carrot, tomato and lettuce) was well overpriced. The potatoes in foil were good .The free bruschetta at the start and cherry almond liquor at the end are a nice touch but overall we were left disappointed having paid €74 for the above plus a beer , water, and a carafe of house wine.

Back in Taormina this week, we were looking for somewhere to eat on our first night, and we chose Il Baccanale. It turned out to be an excellent choice from start to finish. First a mention about the staff, who were all very friendly and helpful.

We had the classic insalata caprese and mixed bread and cheese to start. Both were superb. The tomatoes in the caprese, bright red and no doubt locally grown really made the salad.

For mains we had pasta carbonara and pasta alla norma. Both were superb, especially the tomato sauce in the norma. We shared a pudding of the classic tartufo.

All in all a fantastic meal in lovely surroundings. As well as the staff, the little extras make it special - everyone gets a generous basket of lovely Sicilian bread, breadsticks, a small bruschetta appetiser, and best of all, a little complimentary glass of cherry almond liqueur to finish.

Very highly recommended !

We dined here three times during our two week stay in Taormina and found the food and friendly staff kept us coming back.

Elena, who originates from Cuba was very welcoming and always had a big smile on her face, a really lovely lady. She recommended a white wine - Regalilia which we found to be just what was required to accompany their delicious chicken dish. The portions were very generous and a complimentary bruscetta was delicious and ample for a starter. They also do lovely little baked potatoes in foil to accompany chicken, veal or beef.

The restaurant is located just off the taxi station on the Corso Umberto where a lower road slopes down to the right. Keep walking down the road past La Botte restaurant and Baccanale is the next restaurant down from there.

We found our dining experiences good and would consider visiting again when next in Taormina.

The black mussels in tomato sauce are the best we have ever tried... An absolute must. On a quieter street, friendly service and passable inglesie!

The free cherry almond liqueur to finish was a nice touch. Highly recommended
