We recently stayed at this property for a week. Originally we had booked another villa , Villa Mary A Mare but the owner fell ill and the agency decided to switch our rental at short notice. At the time we were on a cruise in Norway ( we travel extensively, 7 holidays abroad this year alone). So we relied completely on the agency's word that the property was of the same category, and they said it has the same amenities and hence the same price. When we turned up the place was not cleaned well. The pool and garden were dirty and the key manager told us because is was windy. We were shown how to clean the pool but the scoop-net to remove leaves etc was torn and were promised a new one the following Monday( we arrived on a Saturday), it never turned up. Inside we found that the kitchen amenities were missing a dishwasher, a food processor and a microwave, the TV was an old model lacking a USB that we needed to use as we had intended to see some family home movies. Our son and daughter are both medical doctors and due to work commitments this week holiday was very important for us as it was the only time we could spend together. We were told in writing that the TV has all the requirements we asked for. But this, along with the lack of proper kitchen amenities was just not true. There was a large cobweb in the doorway, showing that cleaning had not really been carried out( but we had to pay a cleaning fee)! The beds were not made up and we were given bedlinen to do the beds ourselves, we were told that this gives us the opportunity to inspect the mattresses! When walking out the door, the key manager told me that he wants to show me something important. He said that just in case there was a power failure I was to 'jiggle' the switches around! Finding this very strange, I paid attention. He reassured me it would not happen.
Eventually we settled down and left to buy supplies for the week, including a specially ordered birthday ice cream-cake for our son from a local bakery.
That night, around midnight when we had just gone off to bed(we had been traveling since 3.00 am the previous day) the electricity went out. We jiggled the switches as told, nothing. We could not sleep because of the heat. We opened the windows only to find that the insect screens had small tears in them So mosquitoes had a feast that night.
We tried calling the key manager the following morning, Sunday but although advertised as 24/7 service we only got through later in the day. By that time we had been forced to leave the villa we had rented and went sightseeing instead of enjoying the pool as we had intended. We were told that the electrician could only come the following day. So that night we again had to return to a hot darkened villa. The following day the electrician turned up at around 9.30 were he proceeded to try to make head or tails of the damage. At one point he told me that since the wires were old they could not take the strain of airconditioning and pool etc. The villa should never have been rented for holiday makers. Having enough of this we left the villa again, only to be informed later in the evening that it was repaired.
We returned to the villa and the first thing we did was throw away all contents of fridge and freezer as after 48 hours they had turned bad.
When we were still at the villa we sent a harshly worded email to the agency and they replied saying that they will not allow anyone to damage their reputation. I was also told that I would be fully reimbursed for the time withoit electricity.
In the remaining few nights there, the AC in our bedroom started playing up, making so much noise and dripping on the furniture that we had to switch it off and rely on the ceiling fan(not the same thing of course). As a favour to the owner we moved his furniture so it would not be damaged by the still dripping ac unit. Also when the key manager turned up later in the week we realized that someone had entered the premises without informing us or the key manager. Both the key manager and ourselves assumed it was the actual owner checking on the damage done to the walls by the electrician, and the key manager told us that no one should have entered without at least informing us beforehand.
Finally we returned home and the company asked us for our banking details so that they could reimburse us for what had happened. We had received previously a message that we would be fully reimbursed. We asked for this reimbursement there and then but we were told since our payment was an online transaction the reimbursement would also have to online. We sent these details but after some time our reminders(via email) started to be ignored that we contacted Tripadvisor. We then received 150 euros from the agency but when one considers that we spent 2 whole days and 2 whole nights out of a week without electricity, had to throw expensive foodstuffs away as they turned rotten, the whole inconvenience of the experience, and that we paid well over 1400 euros, the compensation paid by the agency is nothing but a sham. Their attitude was dismissive and arrogant.(key manager excepted). They should be ashamed of themselves. It is not a question of money, (if we can afford to visit 7 countries in a year it is not about the money, it is about your work ethics.).

Pool suberb. Villa although had 3 bedrooms only one shower in the downstairs bathroom. Limited crockery and utensils. Only a 2 seater settee and dining chairs to sit on. Was clean, bedding changed weekly.nb bring mosquito repellant
I have already given a review under Villa Sabbrina.
Villa ok, lacks enough utensils in the kitchen, no wine glasses. Spiral staircase not recommended for older people or very young children. Only one shower which is very frustrating so don't recommend this for large party (3 bedrooms - one shower - it doesn't work)
It is a nice villa but basic.
Great villa with sea views across to Siracusa and with Etna in the background. has all facilities and amenities including air con and a pool - both very welcome after a hard days touristing
TIP: the Villa is last on the left as you take the road down - Nr 13. Confusingly Nr11 is at the other end of the street?
We loved our holiday to Sicily. Villa was roomy, comfortable, lots of facilities and a fabulous pool, in a really interesting area, BUT:
- Owner/manager did not give us directions or much advance information
- he gave us the wrong address and wrong name for the villa! - the road name had changed the week before apparently which he didn't know, and we had nothing except GPS co-ordinates which didn't work in my SatNav, so we arrived at 10.00pm with 2 sleepy kids and had to drive around for 2 hours trying to find it (the local factor, Luca, was very helpful). The Villa is actually called Villa Sabrina. Not a good start to our hols!
- kitchen badly equipped, no big knives, bowls, can opener, wine glasses etc, no microwave as advertised
- the air conditioning in bottom bedroom didn't work
- the pool went bright green with algae after 3 days although they fixed this immediately
The villa was a great base for exploring the Plemmirio marine park which is relatively unknown and has great snorkelling and feels like the edge of the world. Villa is in a residential area and the nearest shop is a 10 min drive, with restaurants etc further again, so you need a car. All in all the villa was a bit overpriced for what it was but we really liked the area and would go back.
