We stayed here for 3 days in July 2011. We found it to be utterly charming, grande, and more than we expected (we were coming from Paris, where we'd spent the same Euros for a one-room hovel.) No surprise. The host doesn't speak English, but he does his best to insure that guests have what they need. Our laptop converters were blowing out fuses, and on our final day, we took our fuses to him, along with our converters, and explained that we just needed to find an electrical shop. He dialed up someone to speak English with us, and she sent us on a short 5 minute walk, and voila....we had enough fuses to get us around Sicily. This B&B is superb. It was our favorite place, and I scoured Touristadvisor.com for months before leaving. We didn't like the breakfasts either, coffee and sweet roll; major disappointment. But I can get over it already. First meal of the day....this B&B is close to several (within a block or two) of meat and bread shops where you can carry away a picnic you'll always remember.

Room Tip: ask for a balconey room overlooking the Square, unless you HATE night noise. No issue with A/C on and windows closed, horrid when open.

We spent quite a bit of time researching to find a reasonably-priced hotel in Ortigia. We were lucky to find B&B Itaca as the price was right and the room was one of the most comfortable of our 17-day trip to Sicily. It even had a small kitchen in addition to the king-sized bed and lots of storage space. When we arrived, the owner gave us a map of the city and made excellent suggestions for places to visit and also restaurants. His restaurant recommendations were excellent. As mentioned, breakfast was served in the bar below the hotel. It was o.k.--a pastry and coffee.

We parked at the Talete parking lot for 1 Euro per night. It was a 5-minute walk to the hotel (uphill.) Our room overlooked the fountain in Piazza Archimede so at times, it was noisy at night but quieted down after mid-night. Not a problem for us but might be for some. Not sure but there may be a quieter room available but if noise is an issue you could check with the owner

The location, reasonable cost, and kindness of the owner would be hard to beat.

B&B Itaca is located on the central square of Ortigia - Piazza Archimede. Our room overlooked medieval buildings and an early 20C statue and fountain - delightful!
The room was bright, airy and spacious and the host, Guiseppe was very helpful as everyone says - though he's better in Italian than English. His restaurant recommendations were superb, especially the amazing Appollonian. Breakfast from the cafe below (one pastry and coffee/tea) is included but is not available if you leave before 8am, at least on Saturdays. You can catch the free shuttle bus (No.20) from the piazza to the bus and train station. There may be some noise from the cafe below (eg. table football in the early hours) but we felt it was worth putting up with for the location and the view. Recommended.

Good location in old section of Syracuse. Clean, large double room, good features. Near restaurants. Staff not available during most of day. Minimal/no English by staff. Breakfast at adjacent cafe was minimal i.e. one pastry and coffee.

Had a great stay, Guiseppe was so helpful, booked taxis for us and helped with any and enquiries. Rooms were clean, loads of wardrobe space and drawer space, spacious shower and bathroom, endless hot water, beds comfortable, lots of pillows, extra blankets not that we needed it in 35 degrees but the air conditioning was a very welcome extra not expected in a b and b. Breakfast at the cafe was copious amounts of coffee and pastries the size of small bungalows. The staff there were warm, generous and welcoming and there's no actual need to book restaurants for the evening if you don't want to wander far as the complimentary pizzas, chips and cakes had us stuffed. All in all a beautiful place, a great ba and b to stay in, fantastic location, no request too much trouble for Guiseppe and to top it all you get the use of a fully equipped kitchen and balcony! A 3 star b and b...more like a 3 star hotel. 100% from us.
