“A nice retro hotel.”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Nice place but...... Spotless almost to the point that you are worried to make an in print on your stay. Staff very friendly. But the hotel comes with rules! Not allowed to put your own stuff in fridge. Not that they can stop you. And no drinks, etc where allowed to leave the lounge area unless the staff carried it! This place had little atmosphere or charm. The AC was too loud for me to have on while sleeping. It was like being in a plane. B'fast was very tasty. Orange juice was nasty at B'fast. They need to address that! Nice roof area to sit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not above the roof patio as you hear the noise in your room and people are up there v...

Unfortunately we were only able to stay here one night, but we wish it could have been longer. Beautifully restored property and the room (superior) was a perfect combo of old and new. Super comfortable bed and linens. Room was a good size and well laid out with good lighting. The bathroom was on the smaller side but the good layout and nice style made up for that. But the shower was a disappointment. The shower head was positioned facing out to the room and the glass wall did not come out far enough to stop the water. There was also mildew/mold around the trim of the shower which seemed a bit strange because the rest of the room and the whole property were spotlessly clean. Good breakfast and great service - very kind, friendly and helpful with lots of recommendations. Easy street parking (free) in front of the hotel or in neighboring streets, and only a few min walk to beautiful Ortigia!

This hotel is an 11 minute walk from the train station and a five minute walk from Ortigia island. The staff are friendly, helpful and non intrusive. The rooms are modern and tastefully decorated. There is a good range of food for breakfast. All in all we couldn't ask for more.

... with nice people and convenient location. I was especially amazed by the availability and kindness of the owner who is also the architect of this beautiful hotel. Good taste of furniture and mavellous service.

We stayed at Hotel Cavalieri for 3 nights. The hotel is modern and quite small. On arrival, we had a pleasant welcome. The room looked really good and the fact that it is a relative small hotel makes it feel like home. The same applies to the breakfast which is served in a small room behind the lobby and is quite basic, but really nice. On the top of the hotel, they have a great roof terrace with sun all around. Finally, the location is really perfect, as it is just a 5 minute walk to the city centre.

Fantastic Location! Clean and spacious rooms. The staff was nice and gave us instructions on which public transport to get on while we were sightseeing. Wonderful breakfast with a wide choice of fresh fruits, cakes,... Well workin air conditioning, comfortable beds and spacious bathroom.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of April (bit late with our review!). Good location just few minutes walk from old city of Ortigia or longer walk to Greek/Roman ruins. Had smallish room which was well designed and furnished and excellent big bathroom. The whole hotel has been very successfully and stylishly renovated by the current owners. Very good breakfasts.
Parking bit tricky as Syracuse is busy city but we used the big public car park nearby - or can park on streets, or hotels has a few spaces.
Staff spoke good English (big help to us) and were very helpful and friendly.
Would certainly stay here again (not something we say often!).

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hotel Cavalieri, at the edge of the ancient city center, is a case in point; this old aristocratic residence belongs to a family of architects and designers, who've turned its 19th-century halls and rooms into a charmingly eclectic, thoroughly contemporary boutique hotel. The location, on Via Malta, is just to the mainland side of the bridge to Ortygia, which is the original ancient Greek settlement. This means easy access by day and a measure of peace by night. As does the hotel itself - these old walls shut out the noise, sealing guests in to a fantasy of noble life. It's not a period piece, though; along with the well-preserved original architecture you'll find all manner of contemporary touches, rooms featuring brand-new bath fixtures, beds and electronics and furnished with mid-century design classics. With few rooms it's perhaps a bit bigger than it feels - from within the rooms you'd be hard pressed not to imagine you're the old house's sole resident. ... more   less
