We have been coming to Ortigia every May for the last 10 years. The quality of the restaurants vary from year to year, good one year, less good and more costly the next. This year, friends recommended A Putia, and they were right! Deliciously prepared dishes in a tiny setting (only seven tables with a postage stamp-sized kitchen), and the prices were reasonable. The wines are also very good to excellent, also at reasonable prices. When you are tired of "typical" Sicilian, and tired of too many carbs, A Putia offers good salads, light pastas, and the best (most tender and flavorful) veal on the island, as well as the best polpette, as pronounced by a friend who was a chef in a top London eatery.
They don't take reservations because this is a teeny place, but, get there at 12:30 for lunch or by 8PM for dinner and you might not have to wait. We were in Ortigia for 3 weeks and ate here at least twice a week.
