“Good food, room for improvement”
Reviewed August 9, 2014

Very nice place in the center of Syracuse. Based is a small alley. Great atmosphere, staff is helpful. Only few of them speak english. But thats also part of the charm of this place. The owners, two sisters I think are enthusiastic and charming. The overall quality of the food is very good.

Portions are quite big, with a aperative, primi and secondi platti you wil have more than enough. We shared the first two which is no problem.

We had some house wine of which the first jug was very good, de second same one we ordered was a totally different wine.... The waiter told us the first wine had aired more which we found was doubtful.

All in all - we would go back to this place!

“We loved the hostess (and the food of course)”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

O'Scina was a great night out. From the first moment on we were welcomed by the flamboyant, lovely, charming hostess, who guided us to our seats and spoiled us with some bread, some extra bread, and some more bread. She really made me think of my mum (which is of course the best compliment you can get). When she took our order she grabbed a chair and sat next to us while writing everything down. It felt so comfortable in a way! The hostess clearly explained every item on the menu we didn't understand (mostly typical Sicilian ingredients) and she really took the time to help us out. It was really nice. Later another woman entered the restaurant, I could immediately see the hostesses were sisters, which added something extra to the "family feeling".

The food was great, the desserts were good too, however we had some better sweets elsewhere. The house wine was delicious and especially the ambiance was remarkable and warm. We really loved being here! Thanks for the amazing experience.

“Rice, not risotto”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

Enthusiastic service, but what was on the menu as "risotto" was really "rice" - like a 50s side dish; the alchemy of creaminess that happens in risotto had not been achieved. Arancini were reportedly good, but my caprese was drowned in oregano that had little taste but lots of twigs.
