“A hidden gem”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

This restaurant was down a narrow street near the Piazza del Duomo and was recommended by the manager of our B&B. It was one of the best meals that we had in Sicily. I had spaghetti with sea urchin and clams which was excellent and grilled tuna with tumeric and poppyseed over crispy onions. It was the best tuna that I ever had! My wife had a grilled swordfish, an orange and fennel salad, and rosemary potatoes. We were too full for dessert but from what I saw coming out of the kitchen, they were probably great too! We had a carafe of house wine and the bill came to less than 60 euro. The service was friendly and courteous and the atmosphere was great.

“Pleasant experience”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Many locals still do not know about this great restaurant but they will find out. We are at Algila and the guy at desk was not aware but is now. Food was really good as was choice of wine. If we were here longer we would go again. A bit more offerings than just "typical Silician" and nice to have a bit of a change.

“Outstanding food and service”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

We had one of the best meals of our trip here. I can still taste the tuna carpaccio appetizer. Everything was delicious and fresh. Even the side dishes and salads were different and wonderful. They have a very good selection of wines at reasonable prices. The restaurant is in a street away from the tourist areas and when we were there, we were one of only two couples who were not Italian. The service was efficient and courteous, and, when asked, the waitress gave us wonderful suggestions for wine and made modifications to the dishes we ordered according to what we liked.

“superb food”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

This is a superb place for food, we went there twice with the whole family. The location is an impressive vaulted place, looks like a huge wine cellar but with a modern, fresh and airy feel. Even the Pizza Margherita is paper thin, very tasty tomatoes (not out of the tin as usual even in italy), certainly the best Margherita we had in Siracusa and the Taormina province in 2 weeks and my son eats Margheritas every night.... We had sea bass (spigola) ceviche which was brilliant, the mixed salad with rucola, fresh pieces of melon and raw tuna was an exceptional treat in texture and taste. If you go for the spigola as a mains go for the version with its own sauce (not the one with Salsa) - they know how to cook fish to perfection. The deep fried sepia (cappellini?) was lightly battered as wonderfully crisp and tasty as a japanese tempura, the house whites are excellent and the service most caring and food preparation is fast (which is good if you come with little hungry children). This is a very high quality place with no false pretenses, no hype: Italians go there for special meals, we saw no tourists which is a good sign. It is on a rather shabby street close to the Piazza del Duomo so a bit off the beaten track, probably a reason why it is missed by the streams of tourists. The discerning tongue will have an enjoyable evening.

“The best meal we had in Ortigia”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Very modern indoor setting. The food was excellent and relatively varied. Service was good. Amazing wine menu with a wide range of Sicilian wines.

Not a restaurant you would find by accident as it is on a side street.

The Tuna Carpaccio is amazing!

On the night we went our meal ended somewhat abruptly as there was a full power cut in the restaurant and they were not prepared. We left after half an hour and never got to taste the desserts which looked wonderful. Luckily there are many great gelaterias in the neighbourhood.
