Me and my boyfriend decided to spend our wknd in Siracuse, which is a truly magical place to visit. On our first night we have decided to look for some exotic restaurant since both of us love this type of food! Both of us have lived abroad, (tasting and discovering different food, flavors and so on)for a long time and both of us felt in love in Indian cuisine so we were squealing from the excitement when we discovered an Indian restaurant. We called them before making a booking thinking they will be busy on Friday night(they weren't at all, only us and 2 other tables), we have also asked if the place is owned by Indian people, they told us that the owner is Italian but cook is Indian, hearing this we were preparing ourselves for a big fest that night! We were so happy, thinking that tonight we will taste some real Indian food! Interior design, decoration, furnitures was absolutely horrible, dark color painted walls, "octopus" looking lamps on the walls were not giving enough light to see what s on the table properly. After not a very good first impression we still decided to give a chance to the food, since apparently cook was Indian. Menu was full of typo mistakes, also the real indian names of the dishes( I used to work in the Indian restaurant long time ago in UK) We went for classic: chicken korma, curry with prawns, and veggi bhaji...it was one big disappointment!! The waiter brought us a boiled?!! chicken leg covered with something a la "korma" sauce...the meat was cold inside, it was only pre-heated in the microwave, curry with prawns turned into tomato sauce with a bit of cumin, I think bhaji was taken from one of ready to cook/fry packs that you can buy in oriental supermarkets here in Italy or Asda/Tesco in UK or Ireland!!??? While having a dinner the other people have arrived, the group was quite big, around 8 ppl, they wanted to order some wine, they have asked about 3 different types from the list, noone of them was available in the restaurant that night. As we were still quite hungry, we have also ordered a Naan bread which guess what? Turned into a pancake covered with sick amount of butter on the top!!!! When the waiter(which turned out he was a manager) was taking the plates from our table he noticed that our dishes were barely touched, although he didn't ask if everything was all right.... Shortly after we decided to pay and leave, at the till, the waiter started a conversation with us saying that he has noticed that we didn't really eat any of the dishes we ordered, not even waiting for our reply he just justified that probably we are not used to a different tastes and flavors and it takes a while to start enjoying Indian food!! It was sad and amusing the same time, also considering the fact that I worked in the REAL indian restaurant! Us trying to be polite answered that we were still full from the aperitivo we had before coming here.... We will never come back to this place, such a big disappointment, lack of professionalism, and this place has absolutely NOTHING to do with real INDIAN CUISINE!
