“A stunning villa in a fabulous location.”
Reviewed September 24, 2018 for a stay in September 2018

Casale Fradama is a beautifully restored historical villa which has the feel of a small castle with massive rooms and original features but with comfortable furniture, air conditioning, a lovely well equipped kitchen and modern bathrooms. We had a fabulous 4 night stay, and enjoyed the garden and the views from the roof terrace. Nearby is the small town of Cassibile which has cafes, shops and restaurants - we ate one night at the Paper Moon restaurant which had great pizza. On another evening we had an excellent meal at the restaurant adjacent to the property. There are lovely beaches close by, and Syraceuse is just a 15 minute drive from the villa. Noto, an amazing baroque town can be reached in half an hour. Although we only stayed 4 nights, because it was our first visit to Sicily and we wanted to get more of an overview of the island, there is more than enough to see and do without going further afield, and lots of places we had no time to explore further. We would love to come back here to stay.

“Wonderful historic house in countryside close to Syracuse”
Reviewed May 19, 2018 for a stay in May 2018

If you want to stay in a fantastic historic fortified house close to Syracuse then this is the place for you. Great for a group of friends like ourselves. The house is unique with huge rooms, very high ceilings and full of antique furniture. It has its own moat and a fabulous garden with outdoor seating and BBQ. The house is also well equipped. Mario was very hospitable and keen to ensure we had everything we needed. He was also very easy to contact in advance of the holiday and accommodated all our requirements. While it is necessary to have your own transport , the house is close to Syracuse which is a very interesting and beautiful city. It is also accessible to other interesting towns like Noto and Ragusa, to walking in limestone gorges and to some lovely beaches. I can highly recommend this place if you want to stay somewhere with lots of character and interest.

“What an amazing family break!”

We traveled to this historic house in June as a group of 7 adults and a baby. None of the pictures taken do it true justice. It is a fortified building complete with dry moat and high ceilings. The latter keeps it cool during the day. Of course as an historic building you do not get hotel 'luxury', but all the facilities we needed were there. Mario was a great host with everything from local advice to a bucket of oranges for breakfast. For our nipper Mario provided highchair, cot, plates & cutlery.

Locally we found great beaches, beautiful towns, breathtaking history and breathtaking driving! If you are going to drive be prepared to switch on 'London cabbie mode' from onset!

Must not forget mentioning the delicious food available in the restaurant which adjoins the house complete with its delightful staff. Note the restaurant and boutique hotel opposite overlook the garden area of the house. While making this a 30 second walk to supper, it also makes your garden public domain. The Trip Advisor pictures do not really show this.

On a clear day you have a view of Etna from the roof terrace!.

If you are looking for an escape from the everyday this is for you.

“Make Yourself at Home in this Country Castle”

Castle Fradama was exactly what we were looking for on our first trip to Sicily. Surrounded by orange grooves, artichokes and lettuce, it was still close enough to Siracusa for access to Ortigia and other sights. Mario was a helpful host, making sure this 15th century manor house was well stocked with the essentials. We rattled around in this big old place and enjoyed warm wood fires every evening. The four of us used the house to visit the sights of southwest Sicily including Ortigia, Ragusa, Noto, Scicli and Agrigento. Visiting in November was nice because of a lack of heat and crowds, but be prepared for some rain and for restaurants to be closed. Overall, worth the tradeoff. Also, internet connectivity was a bit of a problem, although Mario said they would be installing a new system. Franco was also extremely helpful supplying wood and other needs. Also, enjoyed the two local dogs who greeted every morning on the front porch.

“Magical Castle”
Reviewed October 25, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Our stay was magical with beautiful gardens surrounding the castle - farmhouse. Rooms are spacious and the kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, glasses and everything you could possibly need, including enough food to have a wonderful breakfast the first morning of our arrival. Be sure to plan time to enjoy exploring every nook and cranny of the home and grounds as there is a lot of history portrayed in the paintings and decor. We could have been very happy staying onsite and never leaving the castle. The inside is kept pretty much to the historical time period when the castle was built, so understand it could be damp and drafty (we visited in October and the weather was warm and dry). The stairs are original and steep, 2 bedrooms were on the first floor and two were on the second floor. The two upstairs bedrooms have a shared bathroom, the first floor rooms have their own baths. There is also a half bath on the first floor. There is a turret on the roof where you can climb and take pictures of the beautiful surroundings. You can see the ocean from there. There are many areas to walk along the grounds including what was once the moat, and the surrounding farm. There is a B&B that is located on the same property that has an onsite restaurant (we didn't have a chance to try the restaurant). Mario was very gracious and we hope to be able to return some day.

“As Good As It Gets!”
Reviewed October 26, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Well, If you don't think it would be awesome to spend some time in your own private castle amongst orange and olive groves in Sicily, then this may not be the place for you, but for my husband and I and our two friends, this place was a dream come true! Mario & Liliana have made sure that the house is well stocked with anything you might need during your stay, including staples in the fridge when you arrive. The house is well situated for many day trips, although you may find it hard to leave your surroundings. We were only able to reserve Casa fra Dama for three days due to our schedule- would love to have stayed longer- maybe next time!
