The location of this hotel is amazing. It’s on Ortygia, adjacent to the Piazza Duomo. You can walk or use one of the hotel’s complimentary bicycles to explore the narrow streets and alleyways. You can event have breakfast or dinner at one of the tables outside, looking towards the piazza. (The only downside to sitting outside is the stray cats looking for table scraps and climbing in the flower pots.)

Rooms are relatively small, but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is average by Sicilian standards (which is good), and the bar is nice. Service at the front desk and bar were both excellent. The staff parks your car at a nearby garage, so plan to give them 30 minutes notice when checking out.

We would definitely stay here again.

It was my second stay in this hotel and once again it didn't disappoint. The hotel location is ideal just around the corner from the main piazza, and the hotel itself has many assets: the staff are friendly and helpful, you can borrow a parking pass to park on resident spaces around Ortigia Island, phone calls to international landlines are free of charge… The only small negative point I noted this time was that our 1st floor room couldn't be accessed by lift. Not a problem when you're young and fit, but it would still be nice to have lift access to all guest rooms.
I would definitely come back to this hotel on my next trip to Siracusa.

This hotel is one out of the box. We were greeted by a very lovely lady, who ordered a cold fruit juice and nuts and offered a seat. She delivered our bags to our room, nothing was a problem. This hotel provides FREE international phone calls (including one lasting at least half an hour) as well as wifi. The room was of a very good standard plenty of room to swing a cat. Breakfast was varied continental to a good selection. Would I go back you bet ya. Even had a haircut and cut throat shave across the street a great experience.

Room Tip: I suspect that they are all good.

Good value, spotlessly clean, fabulous location adjoining the Cathedral of Syracuse (arguably one of the most beautiful and fascinating buildings in the world, and Syracuse certainly one of the most charming spots on the planet) Highly recommend this hotel. Very good service. Have breakfast in the piazza outside and wish that you have booked a few extra nights.

While on a recent trip to Eastern Sicily in the area of Syracuse my wife and I decided to venture to the small city of Ortigia. To our delight the visit was wonderful, the people extremely pleasant, and the city was beautiful. We stayed a night at the Antico Hotel Roma 1880 situated next to the Duomo, and were extremely happy with our choice. The hotel was quite a surprise compared to some of the other hotels at which we stayed while visiting Sicily; it was well maintained, had nice rooms, a wonderful breakfast, and very helpful people. We were especially impressed with the doorman, Antonelo, who although was not fluent in English, was very helpful and polite. After helping us with our bags and showing us to our rooms he even refused to accept the tip we offered, saying it was his job and his pleasure to help us. If you ever get the chance to visit this lovely little city, a stay at the Roma Hotel 1880 is recommended.

We really enjoyed this hotel. Very friendly staff, great breakfast, the best on our trip through Sicily. Lovely well presented room with a balcony overlooking a piazza. Best position to wander around beautiful Ortiga. Many choices of cafés and restaurants close by.
FYI...when arriving you may drive right up Via Roma and unload your car at the front door. Then a staff member will take your car to a garage to park for 12euro for 24 hours. We would have loved this info ourselves after driving around the place for ages looking for parking and thinking we could not go up Via Roma! ( a very tiny street and ripped off by someone saying he was a parking attendant !!)

We recently stayed here for 3 nights and it is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Rooms very clean, well serviced, great patios to sit out in, breakfast extremely good, and you are in walking distance of absolutely everything. The staff are amazing, they go out of their way to help or give suggestions. Sofia even took us to the bakery and introduced us to some Sicilian delights! We also had an excellent welcome with cold juices etc. the most remarkable thing about this hotel, you get free toll calls to many countries! Thank you so much to all staff for a memorable stay.

Dear Madame,

thanks for your words. Here at Antico Hotel Roma 1880 all of us try to let people have good experience not only with our rooms and beds but even from the contact with every day life of sicily.
Who will remember the colour of an hotel's room after 2 months ? Maybe our customers will remember the warmth of our hospitality that is not only professional but also empathic,
What you say about free telephon calls is not strange. Modern technology allow this at a ridiculous cost and we prefer to transfer value to our customers instead of asking them money.
We also offer free bikes for discover the city as well as a welcome drink in the wonderful Minerva Square. For us a little cost for our customer a warm caress.
Best regards

Alfio Settembre
