“Very disappointing”

Un helpful man at reception, find your own room, carry your own bags, broken power points, plug in bath not working, bath mat threadbare, shower flooded bathroom, pay 17€ a day for wifi, and if you want to use the pool you need to pay extra for swimming cap. All in all this place looks good but is not worth the money. P.s standard room looks out onto the plumbing

This hotel only rates a very good from me because the location is superb. It sits facing the water and the yachts. It is quiet and only one block from the piazza. You can walk everywhere and have a fabulous choice of restaurants within a stone's throw. The hotel itself is a mish-mash of more than one building with a conference center wedged in. The breakfast is good ( although oddly in the basement). The roof-top bar is a must with great views ( fire-works over the water!) When we were there we had to change rooms from a plastic cruise-ship shower to one with a tiled tub/shower combo. The room was only slightly bigger but worth it. The elevator in our wing was broken and unless we wanted to climb five flights we had to go in the service elevator with the cleaning help ( only took three people) and then wind our way past linens and mattresses to get to our room. But if you are visiting Siracusa you have to stay on the island so you can wander the streets until late at night and any inconvience is worth that.P.S. They have a very stupid wi/fi plan with codes on little pieces of paper.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the water!

This is a fine hotel, but one has to expect to pay the price, high by Sicilian standards, but, considering, wasn't outrageous. Third floor room had small balcony with view overlooking the harbor. Bed was comfortable and room and bathroom were clean. A little noisy in the piazza below in the wee small hours, but not unbearable. Breakfast was superb, typical of better Italian hotels. We were fortunate to find parking about 50 meters away from the hotel and, with hotel-furnished permit, left the car there during our stay. There's nothing in Ortigia that's too far to walk. It's a great place to visit for a couple of days and Des Etrangers is a great place to stay. We didn't use the spa, restaurant or roof-top bar.

Stayed for three nights with a friend. We had a beautiful high-ceilinged, tiled, spacious old room with a balcony and view overlooking the harbour. That alone overshadowed the negatives, including the fairly perfunctory service and really disappointing spa.
So - the good points. That view, the location, the room. A real feeling that you could be nowhere else but Sicily. We were on the fourth floor so we weren't bothered by noise, though some might be: the little piazza below seems to be the gathering place for locals at night. Also (and again, it didn't really bother us) but why have a shower curtain over a bath in a five-star hotel?, especially one that is tiny!
Effectively, this is not a five-star level hotel, though in fairness, it doesn't really charge five-star prices. It's a sister hotel of the Villa Igiea and they both seem to have the same complacency about service.
Breakfast is served in the new part of the hotel - which is a bit institutional, though it does have that view.
The spa is also in a new building and is small, dark, not worth it and they make you wear a hat in the pool. Sorry - not acceptable and really disappointing. Just don't pick the hotel for this!
The roof terrace is a fabulous place to have a drink in the evening and watch the sun go down, though drink prices are significantly higher than local bars.
And I have a thing about charging for internet access - €9 a day is just annoying!
Oh and there is no parking near the hotel - you can only park a 10-15 minute walk away, which was fine for us but could be a deal-breaker for others (though you can drive up to the door for unloading/loading).
Overall, I'd stay again, but with a few more natural smiles and engagement from the staff, this place could be unbeatable.

Beautiful hotel, great view from the window, and above all with a roof terrace, where you can find another restaurant. The rooms are clean and tidy. Food in the restaurant is very good. Of course, you should also mention that the SPA is highly recommended, sauna, swimming pool, the perfect way to de-stress and spend nice time. I am very glad and relaxed. For sure I will visit this hotel in the near future. I would highly recommend

A bit of a fiddling to find a place to park even with a resident's permit given in exchange for my passport. Stunning views of the sun setting from the rooftop terrace bar and then excellent food from the a la carte menu in the adjacent restaurant. A lovely sea view from our double aspect suite. Good spa inside another part of the hotel. Breakfast a disappointment on an otherwise great hotel.

The hotel is placed in the best place in Siracusa, the view is great (if you are willing to pay the extra cost for a seaview room). Bed and sheets are great, the only bad thing was that one of the pillows was smelling, nice perfume though... :)
