The whole of the market sells local produce of exceptional quality, but this shop stands out.The welcome in this shop is amazing. We were provided with copious samples of their produce - if we had gone at lunchtime there would have been no need to buy anything. The hams and cheeses were excellent and the sun-dried tomatoes in oil with some chilli pieces and other aromats were unbelievable. On returning we were greeted like old friends. Do not visit if you are in a hurry. But that anyone would want to rush out of this shop defies belief.

According to our guides, Salvo Ficara and Adriana Breuer, they beg up at 3am to begin making their ricotta. Their cannoli filling will be the standard by which you judge all other cannolis, not to mention their smoked cheeses. The Tricotta cheese (ricotta infornata) is not to be missed. Do whatever you can to get their little plates served to you. This is a flavor expedition. Their wine pairings are spot on.

We went here three times. Each time we were greeted outside the shop by someone carrying a tray of cheese or offering us a free sandwich (and white wine on one occasion). Inside, we were greeted like old friends and, when we went back for the second time, the owner remebered our names. On our last day we had some mozarella and sausage vacuum packed to bring home, of course first sampling several options. Always packed, always friendly. An absolute must in Syracuse

What a terrific shop. The cheese and meats are unbelievably good. The man that runs it sliced up tomato and shredded basil and grated his fantastic tricotta cheese over the tomato and gave us slices. One of the simplest and best things I have ever had. He gave us samples of his wine, sides of his salumi and samples of his different cheeses. We all bought tricotta and other cheeses and he vacuum packed them for us to bring home. I tried to buy 10 slices of salami to bring back to the hotel room for my father and he insisted on giving it to me at no charge. If you are in the market be sure to go all the way down to Via De Benedictis, n. 6 and visit this shop. You won't regret it!
