The pictures looked ok, the entrance was grand. However, the closer we got, the more tired and dated the hotel looked... As though nothing had been done in 20 years! If not more.

You could see it used to be very grand but it was such a shame to see it having been left to degrade and decline over time.

The quarries around the hotel were spectacular although we were not able to visit (closed) and the pool was nice. However, it was a good 30 minute walk to where you really want to go, the old town - Ortigia.

Our advice, pay a few extra Euros and stay in Ortigia.

An atmosphere of fading grandeur with an enormous ballroom for a restaurant and a little out of the way for Ortigia in the summer heat but clean and very comfortable rooms, a stunning pool, really helpful staff and the slightly bizarre setting in the quarries. All in all, a fine place to stay. Breakfast buffet is also very good.

Hotel was tatty, grubby and had just about the rudest staff my husband and i have ever encountered at a hotel. It is a 25-30 minute walk from the centre of Syracuse along a busy built up road - not enjoyable. The decor inside and out is very much in need of renovation and is nothing like it appears on the website. Stay away!

Spent a great two weeks here. Staff charming and courteous especially as we turned up at 2.30 in the morning having had our flight diverted to Palermo due to a mini-eruption from Etna! The rooms were elegant and spacious and kept spotlessly clean. Similarly, the pool area which had pleanty of loungers and a sizeable area in which to swim. The breakfast was a good-sized selection often supplemented by goodies from events such as weddings and business gatherings. It's a bit of a walk down to Ortygia (and up again!) though once there there are plenty of restaurants from which to choose. Jonico's, five minutes walk away, is an excellent alternative; and Bel Bon, a gelateria, in the suburbs above the hotel (15 minutes walk) is the best we encountered in the whole of our stay. A memorable trip all round.

Business travellers, as well as tourists, family and everyone else would be delighted of a stay in this hotel. A bit old style, with beautiful, ancient furniture in the lobby and restaurant, make a nice, enjoyable overall atmosphere. Rooms are comfortable, well equipped (including, e.g., electrical sockets at the right places for cellphones, PC, etc.), with air conditioning working well all the time and easy to be adjusted (so when you get back to the room after a 40°C sunshine day you immediately enjoy the relax). What is extremely appreciated is the kind, warm, Customer support provided by people at the reception in any circumstances; they really strive to make you feel coddled.
Breakfast is good enough (although not great); I did not try the restaurant, but heard good comments about it (in Syracuse it is not that obvious to get really good food - please refer to reception suggestions).
One great plus of the hotel is the open area swimming pool, very well kept and equipped with towels, bar, etc.; use is free to every guest at any time, and with Sicily's weather you can enjoy it for a large part of the year.
One great feature of the hotel, making it really unique, is its position on the "latomie", difficult to be described, but certainly uniqiue, and contributing to the pleasure of the stay.
Free parking, large enough.
Flaws? well, yes, there are just a few, very minor points in maintenance that could be improved, but nothing when compared to the positive points.
Thank you Attilia and others, please keep up with your hotel !
