“Food was good, nothing special. Service friendly and helpful.”

We ate at Cantina Malavoglia based on TA reviews and given its closeness to our accommodation. It also opens at 6.30 pm which is great if you have children! However, for us, it did not live up to a 5 star rating. We ate pizza (good), cavatelli alla norma (undercooked pasta but nice sauce) and bistecca siracusiana (average). The standout of the meal was actually the contorno of caponata which was excellent. The service was very friendly and the meal was not expensive. We have however eaten at better restaurants in Ortigia during our two week stay.

“Simply the best.”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Highly recommended and fantastic value and service. The food was exception - I had the seafood mixed pizza - we couldn't eat any more!

Great location, genuine and friendly service. This is a must for Syracuse.

“Simply one of the best little treasures on offer in Syracuse.”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

This is a great little gem hidden just off Siracusa's beautiful piazza duomo, run by a small team of 'your best friends', or so it would seem from the treatment you receive.
The dishes on offer all come out with minimum fuss and delicious to boot. I've visited on many occasions and never left without huge satisfaction, also if you choose the right night then you may also get serenaded by one the staff!!!
For price, hospitality and quality of cuisine, you'll have a hard time trying to find a restaurant to better it.

PS. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING THEIR CANNOLI, best I've ever eaten . . . .

“Gem off the Beaten Track”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

We ate lunch at Cantina Malavoglia on our first full day in Ortigia. Another restaurant had been recommended but was full and didn't want to accommodate us, so we walked around the corner and found Cantina Malavoglia! It was full at the time too but wanted us to wait while they rearranged tables to accommodate us. Once seated we were surrounded by diners eating amazing looking plates of pasta and seafood. We had the mussels, which were divine and three different pasta dishes. Everything was hot, fresh & delicious. The house wine was fabulous & inexpensive & the complimentary limoncello was greatly appreciated. The prices were reasonable and the service was great. I would highly recommend eating here.
