All the tour books and sights we looked at to prepare for the trip to Syracuse state that the Caravaggio painting of the burial of Santa Lucia once hung at the Sanctuary Santa Lucia al Sepolcro Church but is now in the Palazzo Bellomo Museum. This is incorrect. The Caravaggio was not moved to the museum 10 years ago. The workers at the Sanctuary said there had been talk of doing so but it never happened. So if you are an art fan or a Caravaggio fan this is an important piece of information. The reason I gave an average rating is because the painting was not well lit and it was cordoned off 5 or 6 meters before the painting. You could not see the details of this masterpiece. The Church is open sporadically and if you are there for a short period of time a day or two you may not get to see it at all.
