Had an enjoyable meal at EL Sud this evening. Friendly and helpful and definitely recommend the spinach and ricotta arancini balls and great salads.

Ortigia is a fantastic spot in Sicily. it's part of Siracuse but is a little island connected by two short bridges. It has a vibe all of its own and is choc full of restaurants mainly selling fresh seafood. I stayed at an apartment on XX Septembre, no:6. Very reasonable price but would have been even better value for 2-3 people sharing. It was a real home from home and even had a roof terrace!

If you love history you'll love Ortigia. Great little streets, buildings with amazing architecture. For that I'd give it 5 stars, but what lets it down is that it's filthy. Given that it's the old town, with so much history and one of the city's main tourist attractions you'd think the authorities would want to keep the streets clean. Litter and dog dirt and we even saw a rat in the street that wasn't even slightly fazed by the people milling about - just casually strolled across the street. Just lets down a beautiful historic place.

We spent a. Couple of days here and I wished we had spent couple more . There’s quite a bit to see and just get lost wAlking through their quaint medieval streets . Take the hop on hop off bus S it is only 5 euros aNd it’s a greT way to see what this part of Siracusa has to offer .

Ortigia is full of interest and best enjoyed slowly
Crammed with history, it’s winding streets house a few locals, a lot of tourists and scores of eateries
But just stroll around the edge of the peninsular to enjoy the sea, stop for a cannoli or granita, have a beer or local wine as the sun goes down in a brilliant flash of red
Then get up the next day and go to the market-and start, slowly, all over again
It’s lovely!
