“Ultra Modern Hotel!”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

Excellent hotel all round. Rooms are very good but on the small side. Free wireless internet in rooms. All the staff were extremely friendly and most attentive. They provided a map of Syracuse and helped with directions. Good selection at breakfast including cooked eggs to order and freshly made coffees which was a bonus. Lovely roof top area to sit in the evening with a glass of wine from the bar on the ground floor. A bit of a walking distance to Ortygia so you need to be fit. Takes about 30 minutes to Ortygia and less to the Archeological Park/Museum area. Taxis are a rare sight in Syracuse.

You know that feeling when you return from an holiday and everuthing went well and inb your moments of cynicism you have to think really hard about what was not good. Well this holiday in Sicilia was just that. And part of the “went well” was this hotel where we stayed for 3 nights.
We arrived after a long drive from Palermo (by the way, driving with smoking Mount Etna in front of me was one of the best driving experiences ever) and we found the hotel with relative ease. There are signs all over Syracuse. The only thing to consider is that there is no clear indicator of where the entrance is when you finally get there. Maybe it’s just me but i have to go around a one way system and get back to the hotel again to realise that the entrance in the car park was behind the massive hotel sign I passed the first time. So, when you see the sign go right and slightly downhill around the Hotel Una Sign. That is where the car park is. If you are not driving do take a taxi as iot is quite a long and uninteresting distance from the railway station to this hotel. The car park is big enough and it seems to be secured enough. And it is free of charge.
Once you are there you will be greeted by very exuberant staff that made me smile despite a bad morning flight and 4 hours drive to get there. They are great and enthusiastic. (Thank you all for all your help and thank you Laura for trying to help with the parking in Taormina)))) – I will mention this here: if you are planning to drive to Taormina there is a great multi-storey car park at this address: Via Crocefisso, 98039. Driving up there could be a bit scary if you are not used with Sicilian roads but the car park is great and the location is best for visiting Taormina. The cost is about 7-8 euro for 5-6 hours.
When we checked in we were told that we have been upgraded to executive (without asking) and we were shown to our room. It was not a big room but it was a good hotel chic style that utilised the space in a great way so we did enjoy it. The room was cleaned and the towels and changes twice a day which was quite a surprise for 4 stars.
One evening we didn’t feel like going into town to eat and decided to try the hotels’ restaurant. As it happens at the same time in the hotel it was a football team (soccer team if you are in America)))) and the restaurant was quite busy. However due to the nice weather we had a table outside where we had a great wine (just simple, house white was delicious) and we ate two great dishes. During our dinner the chef came out to see if everything was ok and if we enjoy the food. It was a very good evening. Total price for drinks, 2 mains and 2 deserts was just over 50 euro.
The spa is also nice and the wet sauna it’s worth seeing and experiencing. Check before if there is a charge to use the spa. The gym, if you are so inclined it’s one of the biggest i ever seen in an hotel and it had (on 2 levels) everything you may need.
Also to mention the free wireless, great, great breakfast (if you want something cocked for breakfast you have to order on top of what is available at the buffet) and overall nice stile of the hotel.
As i said at the beginning this is one of the hotels where it is hard to find anything bad to say about it. There were no tea making facilities in the room but i am used with these missing when continental Europe, when we went to the spa the dry sauna would not heat properly and we only had shower in the room.
were all these enough to spoil the holiday? Oh, no. Not by a long shot.
Only one thing to consider though. It is not close to the town centre. It is not closed to anything. To get to Ostia for instance you have to walk about 40 minutes...
We didn’t take a taxi so I am unsure how much it costs. It should not be much and Syracuse is not an expensive place.
Overall there is not much to complain about.

I really like una hotels and I have been in quite some around italy. They usually offer modern style in pretty good location for a good price (especially if you book in advance from their webpage) .
This Una hotel is slightly different. It's basically a public spa with a reception for rooms that is often empty. Once after 5 minutes at the reception with no one there I took my phone and called the hotel so someone would finally show up. The elevator to the rooms is one of the slowest I ever saw and is a nuisance as it blocks room access. Rooms are Ok but fail to amaze both in size and quality if finishing (my shower was throwing water in all directions... mostly up)...
To save staff at the top of the hotel they have the "honesty bar" where you serve yourself, write what you took and there is no service at all.
But what I don't like most about this hotel is it's location. It's too far away from Ortigia , you always have to take taxis where the drivers are quite creative with the prices.. and time when they actually get there.
I guess if someone wants to visit siracusa the best place is a hotel in Ortigia.

My husband and I visit Syracuse to celebrate our 40 years of marriage with the consert of Andrea Bocelli. The hotel sold a package with tickets and accomodation and that arrangement was superb. Thanks to Elcin and all the other girls. We also got beautiful red roses in our room to celebrate our anniversary , thanks again, they were absolut gorgeous. This is a very good designhotel. Ask for room 108, it´s lovely. Breakfast had a lot of nice pastries, could wish for some egg and bacon, in Sweden we are not used to have sweets for breakfast :-). Understand that you never walk in Italy , we didn´t had a car so we had to walk to the solarium. It took 15- 20 minutes and there are no pavements, yes we were longing for a car. Taxi is pretty expensive and was not so easy to get. Finella our charwoman, best ever had in a hotel (and we have stayed all over the word). Everyone made their very best to please us and our stay was really wonderful. Lucky me, won a massage treatment and that was extremely pleasant. ZEN Solarium, owned by Claudia and her husband, was a thrilling experience. Recommend their fried calamares for lunch. Don´t forget your bath shoes.

As far as I understand, it’s been under new management since a couple of years, and, for Siracusa standards, it’s really pleasant.
Modern architecture and interior design, youthful, fresh feeling. The staff are lovely, helpful and offer good service with a smile. Wonderful boutique hotel.
The lighting and design style is that of a spa (in fact they have a ‘Centro Benessere’ – which I haven’t tried but looks good), while the rooms have modern furnishings.
Personal highlight, besides the service, is a huge gym (2 floors) accessible for 24 hours, which is quite good for business travelers doing late hours.
Definitely recommended.
also has a nice sushi bar in the restaurant. breakfast with tasty pastries.

A modern concept hotel outside Ortigia. Many intriguing design elements that didn't quite work. For example, the square doorknobs didn't turn and were tough to close from the outside and the reception space lacked any flat surfaces on which the staff could show us where we were going on a map. Good breakfast, nice rooftop bar space, very friendly staff.

Was staying for one month in Dec 2009. Excellent Customer service, Gym, Thermal zone, and cozy atmosphere. The rooms seem to be not big enough - this is only one disadvantage that I can see. Good location, 5 min walking from the see shore with nice lane for jogging. Enjoyed restaurant downstairs. There are also some restaurants nearby. Strongly recommended.
