Owner description: This well-preserved Greek theater (5th-centry B.C.) is still used for performances of classical works.

Go taormina instead . This Greek amphitheatre is in very poor condition, they charge an outrageous 10 euro. No Enlgish anywhere, very scant Italian, and the staff are just doing the job.attitude plus.
3 words :save your money also :big rip off.
Taormina ampitheater is well kept and the town is much better. And they only charge 8 euro.

Having started in Rome (Colisseum, etc), we weren't sure how it would compare. Well worth it. Highly recommended to get a guidebook or other resource before you visit. Very little in the way of resources once you're there (at least in March).

The setting is magnificent for this theater, especially on a day with bright blue Mediterranean skies above. Walk to the top and you can see the sea in the distance and get some really great photos.

The theater is the gem of the archaeological park which really doesn't have much else to offer. Thus, the 10 euro entry fee is a little steep. If you have seen other Greek theaters, this one is skippable. There isn't much left of the Roman amphitheater--a disappointment. In the park generally, there are very few signs and absolutely no interpretative help. Syracuse (a great city) has really fallen down on the job with the maintenance and presentation of this gem. A good guidebook is a must. Purchase park tickets across the street from the entrance to the park. Allow about 2 hours for your visit. Bring sunscreen and water. Public restrooms are available.

I love ancient Greek theaters, and what's amazing is how beautiful and imposing the sites are where they are constructed. Breathtaking view of the sea and the landscape/ Must have been even better before ugly modern construction cluttered the landscape below.

...they cover the platform with a wooden stage and cover the original limestone seats with wooden seats. Quite impressive.
