This restaurant offers a culinary experience based on degustation of various plates all based on fish. It was far better than expected and extremely good value for money (a 6 course degustation meal at €35 per person including a wine bottle between 2). 72I particularly loved the starters (a mix of plates based on raw fish, a shellfish soup and cooked fish tasters) whereas all my family thought the pasta dish was to die for! The desserts are also excellent, typical in Sicily of course.

Service was excellent with attention to detail. The place itself is small and very private. We were lucky that our toddlers had fallen asleep by the time we arrived at the restaurant so we did not disturb the peaceful ambience.

Highly recommended. Book in advance because the number of tables are limited and it seemed very popular.

Our hotel recommended this place so went there for lunch. It's down one of Syracusa's many narrow streets and not that easy to find. We took one of two outside tables. Ordered a bottle of Insolia; and to eat, octopus sale, marinated raw fish and a wonderful dish of pasta with prawns. The whole meal cost 40 euros and has to be one of the best we've had in terms of quality/price. Service is helpful, friendly and efficient. And the food is brilliant. Highly recommended.

We ate at Da Carlo (Apollonion) during our recent stay in Syracuse. We had chanced upon it wondering through the side streets from Corso Matteoti back to our hotel. It caught our eye as it had a display of first class seafood in a cabinet on the street in front of the restaurant's kitchen. It was there to announce the quality of the produce used and it did not disappoint.

There is no menu as far as we know. There is just the fixed price option and the food is chosen each day by Carlo after he has returned from the nearby market stalls with what he thought looked best. We were served six courses for €35 each. This includes wine and coffee. The courses were not small tastes but full dishes of very high quality produce. The highlight was probably the first two courses which were a platter of marinated and raw local seafood and a sauté of mussels and clams.

The platter featured those amazing red prawns to be found in Sicily and carried as garnish what the staff called "asparagi" ie asparagus but was actually samphire, a salty coastal cousin.

The sauté of mussels and clams was served in their own liquid with white wine and parsley. The clams, in particular, were superb and the reasonable (for Sicily) bread was much required to soak all of this up.

Of course this proved to be an error when the pasta dish was served next, featuring fresh tagliolini with scampi.

There is little point continuing to describe each course as anyone reading this will undoubtedly have a different menu to ours. One thing all have in common, however, will be the thoroughly professional staff. They seemed to operate like clockwork, on hand when required but not fawning and sycophantic as can be the case in restaurants.

Another will be the desert. We had lemon sorbet. It was perfect. Sicilian lemons are justly famous for their sweetness and the sorbet showcased this aspect perfectly. In addition, it was exactly the right thing for you palate after so much fish and seafood.

We sat outside, where there are only two tables, and got to see all the comings and goings. It was a truly memorable dinner.

Perfect. from the appetizers to desserts. Fabulous cellar. The "exploded cannolo" is on top of the list.

I booked this restaurant based on the TA reviews and was not disappointed. The service is first class, the food even better. It is fish, fish and more fish. Every plate is an adventure and a demonstration of the arts of Sicilian cuisine and how to cook fish. The house wine is more than acceptable and the price of €35.00 per head covers all 6 courses, wine and water. We added a glass of Prosecco each taking the total to €75.00 for the two of us. Do not go here if you have a small appetite as the quantity of food you will be served will challenge even the most hungry.
