Down one of the many side alleys in Ortigia, this small restaurant serves simple, well-prepared food. We both had swordfish, one grilled, one with tomatoes and capers, and a side --orange and onion salad and french fries. We had a half carafe of red wine which interestingly was served chilled. Desserts were cannoli (the ricotta was minimally sweetened) and cassata. No coffee. 46 euros. Cash only.

Food in Ortiga is not inexpensive so for the area, this is a fair price. And the food was good. I would recommend this spot to others.

We were impressed by the great atmosphere and the friendly staff. However, when our two pastas were placed in front of us, we were disappointed. Both pastas were somewhat tasteless, and lacked the distinct flavors that we had come to associate with the wonderful meals in Sicily.

This was our favorite restaurant in two weeks of traveling around Sicily. Perhaps it was just the stars aligning, but we enjoyed everything about our meal from the moment we sat down in the homey dining room. There weren't too many people in there when we showed up around 7:30, but by the time we left, the place was full and for good reason.

We skipped antipasti in favor of dessert later, but they did have a table full of lovely looking nibbles. We started with penne - in pesto for my Dad, and with clams for me, and we both enjoyed our choices very much. For our secondi, we selected spada (swordfish). Mine was the spada siciliana, cooked in a tomato sauce with capers. It was delicious, but paled compared to the spada arrosto Dad ordered, which was stunning in its simplicity. We still consider this the best fish dish we ate in our travels, and possibly one of the best fish dishes we've ever eaten in our lives. Because we were eating fish, we chose the white house wine which made for a very pleasant accompaniment.

We shared a traditional cassata for dessert, and finished up with a shot of limoncello each, which turned out to be 'di casa' or on the house. The service was friendly and attentive and we may very easily have been the only tourists in the place. The menu was only in Italian, so bring a translator or a friend who speaks the language. Or point and let yourself be surprised!

Very good place to eat pasta. We are going to sit there with not only tourist but also people working nearby (this is a very good sign). We took spaghetti del Chef... excellent... probably the best I have ever had, and Penne frutti di mare... awesome... followed by the traditional Sicilian cassata.
Be careful they accept only cash.
That place is the best one to break with your visit of churches in Syracuse...
And if your baby don't sleep... the waiter is going to sing to her a Sicilian song to make her fall asleep.
